pretty nifty huh? i really hope this works properly in real life--what a boon to legacy lens users!

This feature looks like one of those that is bound to instill the "upgrade itch". I can feel it already.
If it were combined with a sensor designed with micro-lenses to help the corners, that would make a serious alternative for M mount lenses.

I don't understand it, to me this is just a gimmick. Peaking is at least as good (probably better) and it makes it incredible simple to focus off center!
So, it is nice for the nostalgic crowd, but technological a dead end imho....

Peaking helps but isn't always accurate without magnification. Why not have both?

i'm always amazed at how something that has not yet been seen alive can be pronounced dead. unlike this potentially amazing advance, i guess the call of the No bird lives forever! ):

It looks to be a useful focusing aid, and a little easier to understand as to focus point placement with some types of subjects than focus peaking.
The implementation is interesting technology.

I also like the ability to determine focus off-center without presetting an autofocus point and peaking will do this, but it is contrast sensitivity based, at least so far. I suspect having both will prove useful. Which one works the best just might depend on the subject and lighting.

If this works and is fast, I'm totally in. Especially if they put it in the new Xpro.
One thing I hate about digital cameras is that they are all made to auto focus and not much thought is given to manual focus. I haven't tried sony's focus peaking though, which I have read good things about. But, to me, this seems like a basic solution that I can't believe hasn't been implemented sooner.
