I don't understand it, to me this is just a gimmick. Peaking is at least as good (probably better) and it makes it incredible simple to focus off center!

i'm always amazed at how something that has not yet been seen alive can be pronounced dead. unlike this potentially amazing advance, i guess the call of the No bird lives forever! ):

I also like the ability to determine focus off-center without presetting an autofocus point and peaking will do this, but it is contrast sensitivity based, at least so far. I suspect having both will prove useful. Which one works the best just might depend on the subject and lighting.
If this works and is fast, I'm totally in. Especially if they put it in the new Xpro.
One thing I hate about digital cameras is that they are all made to auto focus and not much thought is given to manual focus. I haven't tried sony's focus peaking though, which I have read good things about. But, to me, this seems like a basic solution that I can't believe hasn't been implemented sooner.
