FYI - June 25 rumor announcement

Guess I am old school then... Spent too many years w/ a Leica/Minolta CL w/ the 40f2..

A xe1 w/ the 27f2.8 will end up my digital replacement :)

Gary

U mean the CL? I still have 2 of them. One as a 40 on it and the other a 21. I was using it a lot from mid 80s to around late 90s (maybe early 2000s) period. When I feel like shooting 35mm, it usually going to be contax g2 or the CL.

Gary

It depends. Technology moves forward. U jump in when things make sense, but u don't always buy when the next great thing is available. For me, so long as I am still happy w/ the results or until I can't get it repaired, I will stay w/ it. For example, I still have my x100 and I don't plan to upgrade to anything else until the thing gives up the ghost.

Lately, I am actually using the sigma Merrill cameras the most and the Fuji's when I need high iso color or a lens selection that is not available..

After I get the 27, probably going to be done w/ any new additions to Fuji stuff for quite a long time. There was a time when I was interested in the next gen Fuji bodies or even a full frame, but the sigma Merrill's have now changed my mind.

In terms of Sigma, right now, there is a rumor about a new dp body in q4, but for most part I don't c any new additions outside of a 30f1.4 lens in the near future for my sd1m.

So in terms of camera bodies, don't c any upgrades in near future.. More like use them until they die. I am pretty happy now w/ what I have.. I have gone thru a lot of different stuff to get to the point I am now happy.

I can't wait for this damn pancake. I wonder when it'll be in stock...and not just announced.

I'm still working on getting the most from my 14mm, 35mm and 60mm. The zooms are not (too) tempting for me unless I need a series of telephoto images — then the 55-200mm would be added. So, I'm not waiting for any new items.

The 27 pancake on my xe1 could end up as my vacation camera :) my version of a Leica digital CL.

Not looking for any more Fuji lenses after this.

Gary

How long?

When something much, much better becomes available that can make a significant impact on my ability to achieve my goals.

I am still using my D700s, my Pocket Wizards are 5 years old and I use off-camera strobes from the early 1990s.

Sorry... I don't fit your stereotype of a photographer who owns digital gear.

I guess I'll deal with the pancake not having an aperture ring, but it better not be priced at $600.

I don't know about the pancake lens. It sounds like a great addition to the lineup.

That X-M1, though. Krikey! I can see why some might be interested, but I want something digital for my M lenses, with a proper focusing aid (like peaking or digital split image), that doesn't cost me my first born.

The X-M1, to me, is a disappointment.

(I am only a Fuji-X lurker, but . . . )

Cosina makes that very nice pancake 28mm/f2.8 for Nikon F-mount and it's
$500 and it has an aperture ring on the lens - so, it's do-able.

Fuji had aperture ring on earlier prototype of 27mm which they have shown on one of the photo exhibitions. Now they have intentionally removed it to simplify the lens for entry-level users. :bang:

Perhaps you should look elsewhere then. Fujis main concern is not Leica lenses. Fuji needed a low end camera for department stores. This fits the bill well.

Easy, mate. I haven't insulted your mother, or your virility. If you read my post, it says that to me, it's a disappointment.

I'm not arguing that it doesn't fit well with Fuji's corporate strategy.

As for my own wish list, yes, I am looking elsewhere.

I'm a bit disappointed about no aperture ring as well. Looks like they decided to cut cost to get it into cost range for an entry level camera.

Will have to c how they intend to set aperture on the older camera bodies..

Nor did I think you did. I don't think I was being rude.

I guess the forum has just been full of people getting upset that cameras are being made that don't fit their requirements (Leica X-Vario, etc). I understand M lenses are a passion here, but it seems that for every camera that comes out (that has interchangeable lenses), people are upset that it does not work the way they want with their third party lenses.

How can someone get upset at a company, that isn't Leica, for making a body that accepts their lenses. To me, with all the mirrorless cameras out that accept m lenses, we should feel lucky. A few years ago, you bought M8/M9 or a Epson and there were no other options. No camera is perfect. Not even in film...and there is a long history there.

If you read my post, it says that to me, it's a disappointment.

True, you did. Sorry.

I have no issue with this as long as it is reflected in the cost to me. $199 and I'll gladly buy it. $600...without aperture ring, probably not.

Agree with the disappointment view here, again, not saying that it does not make sense for Fuji. But with X-E1 dropping in price, I think X-E1 as a second body is a better idea. The X-M1 tilt screen is nice to be able to shoot from hip though.
