There are certain Leica goggled lenses that don't normally focus properly without goggles (Summicron 35 / 2.0 1st version, Summaron 35 / 3.5....there are more, I'm sure). If the goggles are removed, would these lenses work on the G1? Anyone tried this yet?

With the G1, you see what the lens sees. So the goggles would be totally unnecessary.

These should work fine. I don't have the appropriate adapter yet, but as far as I know, you should not have any trouble focussing goggled lenses. You are focussing through the lens itself on the G1 and do not having to worry about the lens being rangefinder coupled showing the appropriate parallax corrections.

Given the handgrip on the G1, it may be tough to mount a goggled lens on this camera.

At least the goggled 135/2.8 Elmarit will also require an adapter to mount and focus as the goggles can not be removed and they contain the focus ring and cam. You have remove the lens cell.

I don't own the G1 yet, but have a goggled Summicron 35 / 2.0 (1st version). Clearly it would not mount on the G1 with goggles attached, but not sure yet if it would function properly without goggles. When I get the G1 (not sure when that will be, really), it'll be an interesting experiment.

Ah, pardon me, I didn't realize these lenses had the goggles permanently attached...

It appears that the Summicron 35 goggles should come off with 2 screws, but haven't tried it yet.
mabelsound, it may be a different situation with different lenses. New opportunities for research...

It occurs to me that it would be useful to eventually have a list of which lenses do function on the G1 with goggles removed. Some goggled lenses are bargains compared to their non-goggled versions. These could have a "new life" on the G1.
