G1 focusing problem

I have traded off my Nikon FM plus 180USD for a Contax G1 with G35mm f2 yesterday. Though I have heard a lot about the slow and noisy focuing of G1, it's acutally much quieter and faster than what i expected. And the body is very nice indeed.

However, when I pair the focusing of the G1 with my G2, I discovered that the reading that the G1 gives is 0.2-0.4 meter more than my G2. Do anyone here experienced same problem beofre or is that normal due to different focusing styemt between G1 and G2??

Anyway, I think will try it out a test roll this weekend and hopefully it comes out alright!!!

I had a G2 with 28, 45 & 90mm lenses and TLA200 flash.
Nice set but I sold it because manual focusing is simply not usable :(

The G1 suffers flaw in its passive only AF system, G2 has an improved dual active/passive AF system that works well even with the 90mm at 2.8. This lens can't be correctly focused with the G1.

As I now have a G1, too, I could check the difference. On a tripod with the 45 Planar the G1 shows 2.3m and the G2 2.1m. I measured the distance with a tape measure at 2.11 meters.

Both cameras produce perfectly focused pictures with 28, 45, and 90mm.

The G1 goes to Kyocera for the (free) ROM upgrade needed for the 35mm next week and I'll have it CLA'd anyways.

I guess the best way to check this out, is using a 90 mm lens wide open and put the subject relatively close. Then check the sharpness of the shot from both G1 and G2.

I have the same problem

I have the same problem

At tripod I measured distance to target with tape 0.59 cm,though G1 gave 0.61cm. I take a shot

Are you going to send in for service????

I bought used G1 (green sticker) with hope all will be OK.No luck :( ,besides the only service here in Moscow didnt get program and tables for that old camera from Kyocera. So they donnt know how to re-program it (for G2 they do).To send to Kyocera - this is too costy for me. So Im on the way to get rid of it and buy G2 brand new :)

Hi,

How and where can I can get a copy of that focusing test sheet. I would love to use it on my cameras and lenses.

Thank you.
