G1 price watch.

i got mine, nib, from a member here, for $515 u.s.

Yeah, I've seen them going for under $500 in some places, for the kit. New. Interestingly enough, I saw a few dollars difference between red, blue and black. ::shrugs shoulders::

I'm thinking I should move in before the prices become more inflated.

If you could get some info on when they will bring out additional lenses in particular the planned 20mm 1.7 that would be useful information

G1 prices are already starting to come down here, the local price was 6200 a week ago and this weekits 5900 yuan. In other cities the price was around 5900 before and is down to about 5600. Still though the import tax means the camera is 225 dollars more then it is in the states. Still waiting, lots of new crap cameras coming out right now, was kind of hoping for an announment on Olympus's m4/3 or Panasonic's HD cam though with CES already going on we may have to wait till PMA.

Yeah, if news was coming out of CES, it would have happened already, I would think.
I was at Panasonic's media briefing Wednesday afternoon. They talked about the G1, but didn't announce anything new in that line of cameras.

Well I got mine today from Pro-Digital for $530. So $560 with shipping.
I hope they are fast. Can't wait to play with it.

Was out souring out a G1 the other day, one guy at a Panasonic shop said something odd, the camera is so expensive no one is bothering to keep them in stock, just when they are ordered then they will bring one in. They had one demo model that you could handle but would not stick a battery in it because as he said "the camera remembers how many photos it takes" in other words "if you want to see what it can do buy it and find out." Nice...

Any business that can't afford or understand marketing enough to keep one kit on hand for demonstration to prospective buyers, and two on the shelf to sell, will not see any of my money. The economic crisis does not mean that you roll over and cease to use sound marketing practices when times are tough.

The store you visited is doomed if that's the way they think about demonstrating and selling product. Consequently, they won't be there when you need their help, which is the only justifiable reason for buying "locally". Well, that, and if you attend the same church as the store owner.

Prodigital2000 in Canada, is still clipping off 4 to 6 a week at under $550 on eBay. many under and close to $500.

There's also something to be said about getting something when you want it, instead of waiting for the price to be just right. I have to admit to being afflicted with that feeling from time to time.

But, I want everything and I want it now, so by playing the price drop game I end up with less stuff at a decent price.

I'll probably wait for the Panasonic version, or I'll break down and get the Oly 520 kit.

Yeah but typical Chinese shop hospitality "if you want to see one pay up first then we will think about it". All the shops around here are pretty rude though. Thank goodness for the internet, except here in China if you buy something like this online more often then not you will get damaged/refurbished/used goods being pushed as new.
