Hi everyone, about five months ago I bought a G2 and rekindled a long lost interest in taking pictures. I love it. Its been a dream to use, no focus / metering issues, lovely lenses and I don't even mind the VF.

So far so great, but last weekend it developed a fault with the autowind. It got to about frame 34 and would go no further, I pushed the rewind button and got the film out. Put in a new film and the drive struggled, then stopped. Now without film, everything is working - meter and lens drives. With film in place, nothing works, except the film counter which flashes '00'.

I've done all the obvious, changed the batteries, looked for obstructions etc. Before it gets sent off to Japan for repair, is there anything else I could try?

You have to insert the film just far enough (red point) to make the auto mechanism work. So look at your film: where does it end? Not too far around the take-up spool, nor too far from it. Just right.

A few tries of shoving some of the leader back in or pulling a bit more out to match that red point closely will have your camera working again in a second. Read the manual on this, too.

Whenever that 00 flashes, the film is inserted badly ...

Thanks for the reply but I don't think its this. I've tweaked and teased the film incrementally and it doesn't alter. I've probably put about thirty rolls through so far so if this was an issue I think I would have had it a couple of times already.

And besides all that, it seems to have failed when advancing the previous roll. Looks like its going east.

I never had any problem with my trusty and beloved G2!Try to cange once more Film and battery maybe you can find a pro photo shop near you!!!ask for a suggestion!!!you'll love it

I encounted film loading problem with a Contax AX before, with the same flashing 00's. It may be a different issue since AX also has the moving film back, but maybe not.
