G690 first results

Just processed a roll I shot checking out the G690 I bought on ebay.

Lens is very good as I have heard. Good contrast and sharpness.

Shot on fuji np400, HC-110 1:63, 14 min.
First shot full frame, Second is crop 1"x1.5" from 8"x12".

Nothing wrong with Fuji lenses and when coupled with a big neg there is plenty of wow factor. Enjoy your new toy, it is looking real good.

The problem with 6X9 format cameras is that once you see the results, it is very hard to justify leaving the big monster at home and going out with just a Leica.

I used the Epson 4990 at 2400dpi. It's not a drum scanner by any means, but good enoug for 11x17. If I want to print larger, I will use a friends Imacon.
 
Oh man, you guys failed to HU me on the cheap GL690 on pnet a couple of days ago. I'm hooked on big b&w negs. Well, back to the Rolleiflex...
 
I will be receiving a GL690 Monday. In the past I've used old 6x9cm folders such as Bessa II and Kodak Monitor cameras. I am using an Epson 1640 flatbed scanner with a neg carrier for scanning, and find it to be quite satisfactory. Interestingly, after measuring the negs I have from the folder cameras, the image is slightly over 5.5x8.5cm which is the exact dimensions of the 120/220 negative carrier that came with the Epson scanner. Below is a sample I scanned this morning, taken with the Kodak Monitor a few years ago.

I have used a Fuji GL690 for many years with the AE 100mm lens. The results are stunning. I used to take along a Rolleiflex 2.8D with the Planar lens and also the GL690. I used a Gitzo tripod with cable release and Fujichrome 50 film. The 690 had slides that were at least as sharp as those from the Rolleiflex.

Much as I love my Isolette III's transparency output at 6x6...you are being very, very mean to even MENTION the 6x9 format, Raid!

The Fuji lenses are extremely sharp, and even a 6x6 portion of the 6x9 negative/slide will be awesome. If your Isolette's 6x6 results are great, don't goout and get a 6x9 camera now.

While I'm not Steve, I have a bunch of Fuji rangefinder equipment. I'm not very rangefinder experienced, so I can't compare it to, say, a Leica's VF, but it's very usable and the framelines are reasonably accurate. I'd say better than my Canonet, if that gives you any room for comparison. The biggest problem I have with it is that the VF only has framelines for the 100mm and 150mm lenses, when I have a 65/100/180 kit. But that's a minor irritation, all told. What I remember having picked up and played briefly with an M6 is that the M6 VF is much crisper, but that the rangefinder spot is quite a bit larger in the Fujis which I find preferable.
