ok, ok, I admit it... it's getting out of hand.

Bottom draw of freezer: 8 tins of bulk film, a box and a half of 35mm film cassettes (about 30), and 10x 120 rolls
Bottom of the fridge: A large-ish box with probably 60 or more 35mm films, 20x 120's, and a bulk tin or two.

Basically, my stock for the next year or so. I think the above numbers are a little under what's really in there too.

Just had an earful from my dad, so question is, where do I put it??? Since most of the film is already out of date, I really do want to keep it refridgerated until usage.

Do you think a mini-fridge/mini-freezer for around £130 will suffice?

I was seriously thinking of going to the army surplus store, buying a metal strong box, and burying a bunch in the garden. If it's water-tight maybe it'll stay just as cold as freezer storage. Not sure its viable!

Ash,
Is that price for a second hand fridge? Seems like a lot of money to me. Several of the loacl stores here sell "dorm" fridges for 60-90 US$ new.
If you bury the stuff you'll only have to dig it up again...

only thing is, I'm looking for something 'silent', as ideally the mini-appliance will be in my room.

I think this could be a problem. I'm in no way an expert when it comes to fridges or freezers but most of them make a humming sound at least once in a while.

A friend of mine once put a fridge in his room and had to get rid of it two days later because the thing just didn't let him sleep. Do you have a basement where you could put the fridge?

Also, does anybody know if fridges produce ozon? I have no idea but ozon is usually the reason why you shouldn't keep a laser printer near where you sleep. Maybe the same applies to fridges?? I'm really just guessing.

Ash, don't go near those teeny "table top" fridges. They gobble electricity (your father might give you another ear full) and they make so much noise you won't be able to sleep.

Go for a secondhand freezer. It can double for fresh frozen veg and meat.

There are fridge mountains waiting to be recycled with these new European laws regarding the refrigerant gases and not being able to just dump old fridges. Could you not get one from somebody (friends, neighbours, work mates) that was replacing an old one?

Offer to take it away and pick it up .... you might even end up in credit - ie funds for more film 🙂

I never fridge film, it's not necessary unless you're using high end professional-type film for high end projects where accurate color matching is needed.

For the other 99.9% of us a shelf away from heat sources is fine.

I used one as a nightstand in college. It took a few nights, but eventually I learned to sleep with it. Trouble was, when I graduated, I couldn't fall asleep WITHOUT the noise 🙂 Consider it what they call "white noise".

If it is B&W keep it in the coolest secure place you have, i.e. loft space even in winter can get too hot, under the bed is ok unless your parents are extravagent with the central heating temperature controls, and you sleep with the window shut. This will be cool until next summer?

I keep my bulk loader behind the sofa, I only open the next bulk canister when I have no film left in the loader. My fridge is too humid for storage of film after seals are broken.

If you are trying to store the last supplies of Kchrome 25 then you have a fridge problem.

The bulk of the film fogging is the radiation from nuc testing and cosmos.

The only cool place is filled with my sisters' childhood 'crap' lets say.

Mother: We can't fit the roast potato's and yorkshire puddings in the freezer
Me: There's a bunch of stuff that needs throwing away
Father: Yea, like your camera film
Me: Well pay me for all the film, or for a freezer and I'll gladly remove it
Father: Why should I have to pay you when you're using MY freezer?
Me: It's only in there until I afford my own small freezer
*slight pause*
Me: That's fair though isn't it?
Father: There's no point spending money on your own freezer... we'll probably buy a larger freezer by december anyway.

After all the arguments!

Looks like I win 😀
