The limiting is up to the big guy ( Stephen )
Any new requests?

Also, it seems like there's much less info on camera, lens, film used, etc on the new gallery. I guess this is because the OP's dont take the time to enter it...
This is because it's completely cromagnon in the way it a: presents the information to the uploader, b: allows the uploader to just free-form it without having to fight a stupid drop-down which invariably won't even have their lens.
The old setup was simpler and better by offering simple text fields that the user could immediately place info into - on a single screen before actual upload.

If you have free form, you lose data and the ability to search effectively because of the different ways people describe things. No consistency in data means inconsistencies in search results.

That's because you're approaching it like an engineer who wants a database. Try approaching it like a photographer uploading photos who doesn't want to deal with that stuff. Ultimately you're losing information because people, myself included, just simply aren't filling out any data because its now more of a pain in the ass than it was previously.

I'm aware of this problem: The lens DB. It is still not consistent and many lenses are missing. I know the big effort required to clean and smooth all lens lines and incoming requests. A big thank you for the work already done, but I really have no clue how you could get a faster turnaround for the user who likes to upload and edit an image now, not in a few days.

Jorge, can you possibly add the original posting date for each photo when viewing the gallery?

The date is under the thumbnails. If you click on a thumbnail then view the photo, click on the EXIF button and you will see the date posted there too.
