Three from Luigi this week:
The Little Town Where Time Stood Still_07 by luiman. I liked how the jigsaw pattern of shadow and light shapes can be viewed as a 2 dimensional pattern yet also invites us to move into the picture to explore the alley's nooks, crannies, shapes and textures. The dog anchors everything at the intersection of possible paths. I'd love to see this as a print.
In the street_10 by luiman. I really liked this street photo. Almost claustrophobic. Interesting characters. Their expressions and body language seem to indicate they have time on their hands and nothing to look forward to.
Fragmenta_01 by luiman. Wonderful abstract arrangement of shapes that plays with perceptions of depth in the picture plane.
* by Semrich. Speed. Night. The glint of chrome. Film Noir.
Roman Arch. Castello. by Xavi. Soft light, historic ruins in soft focus, beautiful evening tones.. and the cat strides out of the foreground, totally owning the scene, and giving a 3-dimensional pop to the image.
Kalina by taskoni. The strong psychological component of this portrait grabbed me.
Four Days in November by raphaelaaron. Another powerful portrait.
Power! by Malvin. I liked the subject isolation, and use of longer focal length to emphasise relationship of people and falls

Heirloom Seeds by robklurfield. Dramatic composition in light and shade with rich tones, using Agfa Copex Rapid.
Passing Trains That Have No Names by robklurfield. I liked the darkness, mystery, and the rush of the train into the tunnel. If it wasn't NJ I'd be looking around for the Famous Five. Excellent capture.

Abandoned Warehouse by Joao. This sort of light is normally seen in cathedrals. Nice juxtaposition to see it here.
Long Island City by Mlehrman. This has the look of a Hopper painting. I thought it was quite beautiful.

Bellport Marina vs. Hurricane Irene by Salt... I thought this captured the power of the storm very well. Look at the tree branches on the left hand side, and how quickly wave ripples develop in the lee of the fence on the right. There also seems to be people sheltering in the wave-besieged marina.

Here are my picks for the week:
2 from SimonSawSunlight, both quirky and great moments.
sfi, wonderful light and tones, almost an abstract image.
barnwulf, very well seen and timed, makes me think of a B&W Mondrian.
Cocal, like 2 contrasting images in one.
lynnb, timeless, love the expressions and grain.
Anastasia Ioffe, one of the best street performer shots I've seen, the kid's rapt attention and the crowd all oblivious makes the shot.
print44, love the 2 mirrored shadow people in motion, it looks like a ballroom rather than underneath a motorway bridge.
robklurfield, just a nice B&W photo that would make an interesting print. Nice story to go with it, I know swamps as a kid growing up in Connecticut. Henry David Thoreau's "On Walden Pond" mentions muskrats but he forgot to mention skunk cabbage.
Joao, very nicely done, the tones are perfect including the beam of light cutting through the room.
Malvin, well done for a night shot, hard to imagine an airport that empty.
