Thanks Harry, Richard, Angelo, Jim, photony texas, Luigi and kutitta for including my pictures here.

Three from Luigi this week:

The Little Town Where Time Stood Still_07 by luiman. I liked how the jigsaw pattern of shadow and light shapes can be viewed as a 2 dimensional pattern yet also invites us to move into the picture to explore the alley's nooks, crannies, shapes and textures. The dog anchors everything at the intersection of possible paths. I'd love to see this as a print.
U28407I1355177599.SEQ.0.jpg

In the street_10 by luiman. I really liked this street photo. Almost claustrophobic. Interesting characters. Their expressions and body language seem to indicate they have time on their hands and nothing to look forward to.
U28407I1355260937.SEQ.0.jpg

Fragmenta_01 by luiman. Wonderful abstract arrangement of shapes that plays with perceptions of depth in the picture plane.
U28407I1355351074.SEQ.0.jpg

* by Semrich. Speed. Night. The glint of chrome. Film Noir.
8274641598_45663c2c13_b.jpg

Roman Arch. Castello. by Xavi. Soft light, historic ruins in soft focus, beautiful evening tones.. and the cat strides out of the foreground, totally owning the scene, and giving a 3-dimensional pop to the image.
U12986I1355215352.SEQ.0.jpg

Kalina by taskoni. The strong psychological component of this portrait grabbed me.
U39285I1355244763.SEQ.0.jpg

Four Days in November by raphaelaaron. Another powerful portrait.
U35232I1355728051.SEQ.0.jpg

Power! by Malvin. I liked the subject isolation, and use of longer focal length to emphasise relationship of people and falls
U51878I1355255894.SEQ.0.jpg

Two from Rob:

Heirloom Seeds by robklurfield. Dramatic composition in light and shade with rich tones, using Agfa Copex Rapid.
8265225855_f21315eca7_c.jpg

Passing Trains That Have No Names by robklurfield. I liked the darkness, mystery, and the rush of the train into the tunnel. If it wasn't NJ I'd be looking around for the Famous Five. Excellent capture.

some more picks..

*** by Stefan Jozef. Fascinating abstract.
U19465I1355418911.SEQ.0.jpg

Abandoned Warehouse by Joao. This sort of light is normally seen in cathedrals. Nice juxtaposition to see it here.
U7702I1355425469.SEQ.0.jpg

Long Island City by Mlehrman. This has the look of a Hopper painting. I thought it was quite beautiful.
U3187I1355462133.SEQ.0.jpg

last light I by againelo. Beautiful light and shadows bringing out the textures. I'd like to see a print of this..
U11977I1355466444.SEQ.0.jpg

Bellport Marina vs. Hurricane Irene by Salt... I thought this captured the power of the storm very well. Look at the tree branches on the left hand side, and how quickly wave ripples develop in the lee of the fence on the right. There also seems to be people sheltering in the wave-besieged marina.
U46581I1355528185.SEQ.0.jpg

boarded up gas station by barnwulf. I enjoyed Jim's rigorous composition in line, shape, light and shade.
U29574I1355590543.SEQ.0.jpg

Mother and Daughter by hteasley. Beautiful, emotive capture.

Thanks Tony, Rob, Angelo, barnwulf, Luigi and Kutitta for the mentions - it's an honour and has made my day.
Here are some of my picks - though there are others that struck me so I'll post some more tomorrow.
Luiman:
A wonderful, complete shot:

Mlehrman:

Sirausa, Lynn, Photony Texas and Luigi, thanks for the recognition. A strong motivator added to the great motivation everyone's work stimulates each week.

Thanks Angelo and Jim and Siracusa for noticing my photos. Jim, I loved your comment in the Gallery on your first pick this week, Luiman's The Little Town Where Time Stood Still_07. Very philosophical.

Here are my picks for the week:

2 from SimonSawSunlight, both quirky and great moments.

U23302I1355686238.SEQ.0.jpg

U23302I1355686235.SEQ.0.jpg

sfi, wonderful light and tones, almost an abstract image.

U22908I1355592492.SEQ.0.jpg

barnwulf, very well seen and timed, makes me think of a B&W Mondrian.

U29574I1355590543.SEQ.0.jpg

Cocal, like 2 contrasting images in one.

U30438I1355570332.SEQ.0.jpg

lynnb, timeless, love the expressions and grain.

U27021I1355561371.SEQ.0.jpg

Anastasia Ioffe, one of the best street performer shots I've seen, the kid's rapt attention and the crowd all oblivious makes the shot.

U26852I1355313969.SEQ.0.jpg

print44, love the 2 mirrored shadow people in motion, it looks like a ballroom rather than underneath a motorway bridge.

U43415I1355354841.SEQ.0.jpg

robklurfield, just a nice B&W photo that would make an interesting print. Nice story to go with it, I know swamps as a kid growing up in Connecticut. Henry David Thoreau's "On Walden Pond" mentions muskrats but he forgot to mention skunk cabbage.

8268034162_2e032d5074_c.jpg

Joao, very nicely done, the tones are perfect including the beam of light cutting through the room.

U7702I1355425469.SEQ.0.jpg

Malvin, well done for a night shot, hard to imagine an airport that empty.

U51878I1355485796.SEQ.0.jpg

hteasley, and now for a color shot. A special tender moment for sure, one for the whole family to cherish.
