It's Monday again, and we've all seen lots of good stuff in the gallery this past week.
Let's highlight what we liked best...

Hi, Jon.
One of the problems with this thread is that it gets very hard to find after a few hours. It's a wonderful idea, this thread, and I really enjoy looking at everyone's selections and feel flattered when some of mine are chosen.
I suspect many people don't know it exists due its quick disappearance who might otherwise participate.
As I know virtually nothing about computers, I have no idea how this could be arranged. In fact, maybe it is somewhere and I just can't find it, other than going back through the posts day by day.

It should be a Sticky so it's always at the top of this sub-forum. I have asked for that before but the only response was the chirping of crickets.tedwhite said:Hi, Jon.

This thread appears every Monday morning in the Photo General Discussion forum. It usually stays near the top of that forum for a few days even if it drops off the front page.
At one time it was relocated by somebody to a much more obscure location, but thanks to backalley the decision was reversed and it's once again in a well-used part of the site.

I like this thread very much and I'm thankful to Jon for starting it every given monday but I wonder if it has any sense anymore. Just Jon and me posted our favourites right now ... maybe we should think about some kind of changes to make other members partecipate. Any idea?

I've been off the board for a two weeks, it is normally my ritual to go through the gallery on Monday mornings - it will be reinstated the week after next.
Not sure on getting more people to participate... Signiture update?

Yes, I was disappointed at this week's response too. Perhaps some of the regulars, such as kully, are otherwise engaged and we'll see them back. Perhaps some new people will get onboard too. I hope so.
I've thought several times about starting the 'Gallery Picks' thread and at the same moment starting a 'Best Camera Bag' thread and seeing which had more views and contributions a few days later.

Hey Jon
i don't think this is the real point. In a whole week we have about 350 photos posted in the Gallery. I guess (but it's just an idea ...) that the average numeber of photos posted by each contributors in a week is around 6/7 each (someone post 1 photo every 2/3 days someone else posts 4/5 photos and others post 8/10 photos in the same period); so I assume that there are at least 50 contributors for the Gallery.
So, in my opinion, the goal should be having all these guys involved in this thread. No matter if they also like discussing about gear or bags.
Just my 2 cents

Your €0.02 is right.
I was just a bit grouchy with the bag comparison thing.
Nowadays I find myself more and more over at http://www.vazaar.com/ for photos and comments.

I agree it has been quiet around the picks of the week lately.
Best regards to all.

I took a look at Vazaar. Lots of pros there for sure, and for the most part the photographs are outstanding. What differentiates that site from ours is that most photos at Vazaar are from digital cameras; secondly, it lacks the give and take dialogue and topic variety that we have here.
Also, as most of our stuff is film and street photography oriented, there's a rawness (in comparison) and a this-is-the-way-it-really-is look our photographs.

One thing I’ve come to realize is that this forum is not conducive to photo display. A quick click on a link to Vazaar or Flickr will show a photo friendly web site. It is like comparing a DOS screen to a Windows screen.
But, I have often enjoyed visiting this weekly thread and admired the effort it takes to keep up the attention on the photos.
I am sometimes mildly irked when several posters like to the same photos and I keep reloading that photo without knowing what it is. If each photo is only mentioned once it would draw increased attention to a larger sample of good photos.

Obviously, this thread should be a sticky one. Jon, have you contacted Joe in order to make it sticky?

I'm not at all sure about stickiness. The thread renews every week in the present format.
I think it's about getting people to join in and enjoy each others' photos.
Any suggestions are very welcome.

Then every week, the new thread should be a sticky ... I dunno ...
