Okay I was going to post this after I'd done the deal... but... I just got too excited!
My well-used and very annoying :bang: 300D is going into the shop today, and never coming back. What is coming back, is a Canon P with a 50/1.8 and meter, and an Oly XA2.
Just had to tell someone!
Thank goodness I have such an understanding girlfriend!

you will soooooooooooo happy!
tonite i had all 3 canon p cameras out with me.
i kept 2 on the table all night, small club, live music, 50/1.4 and 100/3.5 lenses mounted.
there were 2 other shooters there, both with canon digital & big ass long lenses.
and it was then and there that i realized how incredibly happy i am with this gear.
not just happy, but f**king ecstatic!!
enjoy the p and that 50/1.8 is razor sharp too.

Where'd my Bessa go?
Ahh, the mystique of the P claims another victim... my congratulations!
I need to pick up more Canon glass myself. Right now I have 3 bodies and 1 lens, an unusual ratio or so I've been told.

Did your Canon lenses go with the body, Simon? I vaguely remember that you had an 85mm...
Also: what was so annoying about it? I know that I've got a few things about mine that I'd like to see improved (viewfinder, for one!), but I don't find using a Canon digital body amazingly irritating, though it's not as much fun as my M.
But congratulations on the purchase -- you'll have to come along to the LUGSA meeting in two weeks and show it off, I know the others would be intrigued to have a look at a P...

I know where you can get a Canon 35/2.

the snow must go on
Joe, i had the same kind of feeling in a similar environment with my contax iiia and the 50/1.5 on it. There was a guy with a gigantic digital slr + a shoemount flash and a set of zooms shooting around, and yes annoying some people by kneeling in front of them, and flashing occasionally.(flashing, LOL!) I was happy i took the easier way...
Congrats, simon

Hey guys, thanks for the well-wishing!
Justin, I have an 85mm f/1.8 still... it's going up for sale if you want it
As for what was annoying about it, well... it's just too plasticky, too much automation, too electronic, viewfinder was annoying, lens crop was annoying, etc, etc, etc.
The Canon is sitting in my lap now, I'm just familiarising before I place the first roll of HP5 in it! I am overjoyed.

At this rate Canon P's are never coming back down to Earth.
Congratulations on the wise move, and congratulations to Joe on another convert.
If there is another remake of "Bedazzled" I'm sure Peter Cook will be trying to get people to switch to Leica's and Dudley Moore will use a Canon P. "Lust" will always be wearing an original Black Nikon SP, and nothing else.
