GAS - I'm done, what now?

It seems, I'm in a rare situation (at least, when I'm looking at the usual threads here and other similar sites):

I have my Leica M nearly since it was on the market. I already had the 35mm Summilux ASPH and the 50mm Summilux ASPH from M9 time, the 28mm Elmarit ASPH came since.

A few weeks ago, I realized, that I did not lust for anything else in the Leica world. I did some statistics over my M and the older M9 pictures and saw, that the vast majority of my pictures were taken with the 35mm, followed by the 50mm and then 28mm. I also bought a 90mm Summarit, but I rarely used it, and I did not miss anything besides these three lenses ever since. For over a year, I bought no new lenses for my M without missing something. Before that, I had many rare, unusual and pretty nice lenses, that I all used for a short time, and then sold to buy the next "shot", like an addict. Not anymore...

What is the conclusion of this situation? - I now sell my 90mm Summarit and some other stuff, because I realized, that I'm perfectly happy with what I have. There ist nothing else, that I "need" or look after.

Strange situation... I guess, I now really have to go out and actually take pictures... 😉

Good choice! In the end it's always the love of fine craftsmanship, I hope you are actually using those fine knives!

Yes. While there may come a day where I will want a system camera and a few lenses, right now I'm very happy with my iPhone 5.

I prefer to say "Done for now", rather like "Never Say Never". Photography has always been about finding a system that blends with me and who I am at that moment. I love lots of different systems for different aspects. Size, glass options, flexibility one direction or another, I was just as happy with my OM-1 and three lenses as I was with my Leica M4-P and M6.

There's a beautiful folding Fuji in the classifieds that I've lusted for over the decades if you want to kick the analog tires. Perhaps a Leica T to toss in the pocket?

I already have japanese kitchen knives, bought the last one this fall in Kyoto, a nice Nakiri bōchō. And I already have a Fuji GF670 folder...

There will be new and other stuff besides my other cameras. But right now and for a year already, I'm done with GAS.

Indeed, I have a bunch of prints hanging on the walls and also photo books, even had an small exhibition with 30 of my prints. But actually, I'm more a screen-guy.

But try me, lets see, how much I can resist... 😀

I'm done with Leica for the moment. Anything else I buy is for pure curiosity - if I do get any more M lenses at all. As-is it is difficult enough to keep all of them in working order and shooting each one enough...

I might start investing more in medium format and start shooting landscapes. Or I might invest in a lighter kit with digital compacts. It's a first world problem when you don't know what to spend money on 😀

I've reached basically the same point.

MP for 35mm film.
EOS 3 for 35mm film with AF (kids these days...)
ME for FF digital.
500c/m for 6x6
Mamiya 7 for 6x7
Wista VX for LF

And good lenses for each system. I've even got a land camera for the occasional instant, and a few other 35mm SLRs for fun.

I honestly don't have anything to spend my money on anymore, except film. I could buy better glass for my Leicas, but I just don't see the need for a 35mm camera, which I use primarily for street photography. The Mamiya glass is as good as it gets, and the only lens I have for the 500c/m (80 Planar) is, likewise, excellent. I only use 2 lenses in LF (APO-Symmar 135/5.6 and Fujinon W 210/5.6), and don't use it enough to justify any others.

You need a PC with a dedicated colour matched screen so that you know those prints will be perfect. What about a high end 7 cartridge professional colour printer?

Do you have a really good bag for carrying the camera? How about a tripod?

Do you have a Lee filter system for stopping down those high speed lenses?

What about a camera that you can take anywhere? Aren't you ever sorry that you didn't have you M with you, but it wasn't practical?

I don't seem to want anything else either--whether Leica, Nikon, or Hasselblad. It's an odd feeling, not having a new acquisition to look forward to. I can look forward to using what I have!

specific to your question, i came to the same conclusion/different gear: Fuji x100:digital and M6/M5 with a 35 & 50mm Summicron lens for film…. i'm content searching for new content versus gear….. unless the XProII seems interesting enough to consider.
