Gear Choice as Entertainment

How many of you have had the experience of photographing a wedding as a guest, only to have your pix be the ones the couple displays in their home, instead of the pro's? My own bias is that there is a valuable intimacy that an outsider will have a hard time duplicating. For myself, seeing my pictures of friends' weddings or other events up in their homes is deeply satisfying; a sure sign that they recognized something essential in the moment and point of view I chose to record. Hell, I brought a camera to my own wedding (M6, 50 tabbed cron . .). My brother is having his bachelor's party in a month. "Camera or no camera?" I asked him. "Definitely camera," quoth he. So that will tell you where my brother is coming from.
