gene, how's the 75?

hey gene,

maybe i missed it but i'm wondering how you like the new 75/2.5 and how you compare it to the 90/3.5?

i'm looking forward to my 100 showing up to compare the 75 to it.

Joe, I really like the 75. Some of my most recent posts in the gallery were taken with it.

It's a shorter lens than the 90 and it has outstanding bokeh. I haven't used it much for indoor shooting and portraits yet. That's my next project.

The 90 is a full f-stop slower, but is a tack sharp lens. I've always liked it but wanted to add something a little smaller and faster.

I find a 40/75 combo a nice light kit to carry around. But I rarely leave the 90 at home. I often need the extra bit of reach it provides.

it was looking at your shots with the 75 that spawned the question.
i think the (35 or) 40 and 75 do make the ideal couple and when i carry the bessa that's what i take with me.
i'm thinking i'll do 50/100 with the 'p' and have that slightly longer reach.
it's amazing how, after using mostly a 35, the 50 seems like a bit of a tele.

I was equally amazed when I had this experience recently. Made me think that maybe the 35 is the "natural" lens for the camera even though the 50 is supposed to represent the perspective of normal human vision.

You're right Peter. When you get used to shooting with a 35mm lens, the 50 does seem like a moderate telephoto.

Joe, I don't mind at all having two moderate teles in my kit. I'm not a serious wide-angle shooter -- I tend to see the world from 35mm on up. I guess I tend to look for details rather than the big picture.

Although it's a little jewel, I'm giving some thought to selling my CV 21/4. It's just too wide for my comfort level. The widest I like to go is 28mm. This is opposite the preferences of most RF shooters ... I could walk around all day with the 75mm as my only lens ...

i often as not do just that also.
i'm the same re. wide angle lenses. i had a 24 with some slr outfit and never gave it a really good workout.
i keep thinking i 'should' have at least a 28 but i doubt i would use it much.
i imagine my experience will be similar to yours with the 75/100 i will have.
i'm starting to see my stuff as 2 seperate kits and not as a big bag of eqipment.
