German Teenage Boy Photo's-Starting in 1935.

Keeping with Keith's marvelous work on "found" photographs, I decided to scan and post a few from an album I've had for a few years. I bought this album in a Military Surplus shop for $50 years ago. I had a german friend translate it for me (which I've since lost) but she said it was a teenage boys album.

The album contains the usual school outings, friends having fun, family at Christmas.

The photo's are various sizes, none bigger than about 2" x 3". Some are as small as a postage stamp.

Those three are a good start ... the third in particular is really good IMO.

I never tire of looking at these old pics ... I love the tones in them and I really enjoy the sense of moments in history captured by someone totally unknown to me.

Don't stop!

The book ends with the gang having a party by a river, the first two.

The last picture is on the first page of the book, taken in August 1935. It's very small, maybe 1 1/2" by 1 3/4".

Don, shedding light on the truth will hopefully prevent the darkness of that period from descending on us again. When people forget or choose to ignore what happened, then we are most risk of repeating that history.

I like the two shots of the girls.......showing that typical pre WW2 European fashion, the cut of that girls fall/winter outfit is very posh and the hat the other girl is wearing is nice.........wonder if these people made it through to 1945? ~ One can only guess.....

That car seems to be a DKW Meisterklasse version ca. 1937/8 ~ very popular car built in masse before the war (the original people's car, afforable 4 wheel transportation for only a brief time before WW2) .....it was revived after WW2 as well

I believe it's a DKW. The four united rings was at this time the Auto Union logotype.

Do you know the Photographers name? Find out anything of him past the album?

Not very much. Know his last name was Herbst. I think it says where he grew up, I'll have to look. I've just done a cursory search and came up with nothing.

All are really nice, the one with the women in the hat (I think no. 7) is my favorite. We have lots of German members so maybe they will fill us in on the geography.

The "gang" happens to include the most infamous human since Ghangus Khan, Hitler himself. Interesting. I see Martin Borman in the background and at least one soldier wearing a Deathhead insignia. Is this picture dated?

I am going to speculate that the fact that the album ended up in an army surplus store probably does not bode well for Herbst.
