Anyone using a grip on their Leica M? Got the Fodidox (sp?) and it did not line up so I sent it back. Should I go for the Leica grip or is it a bad idea to begin with?

I prefer the old or new GMP grip, Akiva. This is the old one, showing up on ebay every so often:

Looks like it is full of purpose but somehow I am not smitten to it's aesthetic.

works great though...very comfy in the long haul...

Ok, let's say I go for the GMP grip. How does it work for changing film?

What about this one?

I have both the old one (see my pics) and that one (the new one). For both, you can keep the grip on the bottom plate when changing film.
Never liked the Leica one, too flimsy. But - judging from pics - I'm probably twice your weight

I use this one. The original leica grip.
Before I had my doubts because it is made with plastic but after using it for a bit, I actually like it. It is very strong (as most plastics these days can be) and I like the light weight and that it doesn't get freezing cold in lower temperatures.

A strong vote for Tom's rapidgrip:

Only negative point - it's only for film M's not for digital otherwise I would have outfitted my new ones too. So for the M3 it will fit just right !

Most of the third part grips dont match the Leica aesthetic. They might feel good in the hands, but they just dont look right (to me at least).

I have recently bought the old GMP grip.
Its definite pro is that it makes very easy to hold the camera with two fingers when not shooting. The strain on my hands after hours of walking with the camera in hand is much much lower.
But for the shooting itself, I think I prefer the thickness and the round edges of the new type Leica ER case. My little finger has a tendency to go under the camera to support it, and with the GMP grip, the sharp angles hurt it after a while (poor one).
Changing film is very easy with the GMP. you have access to half the base plate where the open latch is. Also, I feel it adds some weight to the camera. Some may like it.I don't (the grip+1 IXMOO+a Summicron DR begins to add)
I also guess that for cold weather the ER case should be better than the metal grip.
But all in all, I'm using it, still making my mind about it (and I like the looks and built of it)

I use a super cheap bought off ebay for £12 (roughly $18). Looks much the same as that and works very well.

Have one of the old GMP grips, a silver one. Bought it for the times when looking for a little more purchase on my M3. Never really use it personally, except when I want to use a tripod. Definitely a matter of personal taste. I never liked mine.
