Getting back to B+W development

Although I've been reading RFF for a while, I've only posted a few times.

I'm looking to get back into developing my own B+W film. However, I have no access to a "real" darkroom, no space for a decent home setup and I'm on a septic system, so I need to be careful about what I pour down the drain. I will be scanning the negatives once they're developed; home printing is out of the question.

For those of you with similar considerations, how do you do your development? I've heard that XTOL should be safe for septic, but it's been so long I feel like I'm a novice all over again.

Hi George, the only problem I see is the septic system. I keep my used chemicals in containers and take them off to my transfer station when it is time. I use Perma Wash and Photo Flo, if my run off jug is full I will pour those down the drain as they more or less are just fancy soaps.

Now, there is no need for a darkroom. A sealed of bathroom, closet or anything that will allow you complete darkness will be fine to load the film into the reels. Everything else you do to process film is done in full light. I actually have a changing bag that I use to load my reels, often while watching TV. I am more coordinated when my eyes can see, even though they can't see my hands.
