So I'm pretty sure I have made up my mind to get an R-D1. This will be a big jump from my Contax Tvs Digital.
What are the chances that an R-D2 will come out this month, or by the end of the year?
[Comment] What is your favorite lens?
If you had to have one lens what would it be?
Can any one recommend 28mm 1.4 or close?
Thanks,
James

If there is going to be an R-D2 it will be announced at Photokina at the end of this month. Certainly haven't heard anything on the radar so its doubtful.

Come October I'll probably have a (firmware updated) R-D1 for sale. Also for sale will be a (modified to fit) PhotoEquip grip and a custom made Luigi half-case -- two mutually exclusive accessories. Camera will have just come back from DAG where the RF/VF will have been adjusted. It has perhaps ~2000 images on it and is in very good (but not showroom perfect) cosmetic condition.

I would wait until the M8 hits the market and drives RD-1 prices down.

Go and get it. I love mine and will keep it - together with
my upcoming M8 that I am listed for. Really looking forward to use them both....
If I had to choose only one lens: Summilux 50 ASPH.

chances of an R-D2? - close to zero AFAIK
favourite lens - depends on the day - 50/1.5 Nokton for the quality, 12mm SW Heliar for the dramatic effects.
Only one lens? - probably the 12mm 'cos it's unique.
Recommend 28mm 1.4? - I don't think there is one, but the CV 28mm 1.9 is a superb lens, highly recommended.

I don't think the M8 will drive down the RD1s prices.....folks will say, "I can use my Leica lens and get just as good a shot and save $3k......to buy more Leica lens"!

There are those (not one of them) who has to have the very latest. They'll dump their RD-1 ASAP after the M8 comes out. For awhile there will be some of those on the mkt.

RD2 ? Very slim chance.
Most universal lens for APS or 1.3 RF? That must be the Tri-Elmar
1.4 28? Can't think of one offhand - but of course the Summilux 35 (ASPH) is one of the world's great lenses.
Come to think of it - I doubt a 28/1.4 would be possible or desirable on a wide, resulting in blocking half of the frame. It would probably be very expensive with very limited applications. After all, 28 mm is not really a focal length for shallow DOF and slow shutter speeds are not an issue either.
