Yesterday I received a new X-E1 and I'm trying to love it. The only thing stopping me is the EVF. I own and love an X100 and the optical viewfinder is fantastic, but I wanted interchangeable lenses. I bought and sold an X-Pro1 when it was first released. Great camera, but slow (at the time) and I thought it was too big.

The X-E1 is a terrific camera overall. Snappy enough in use, perfect size, etc. I just don't care for the viewfinder. I'm finding it choppy and somewhat hard to see in bright daylight.

For others who've gone from optical to electronic viewfinders, did you eventually get used the the EVF? It's only been 24 hours for me, so I'm hopeful.

I had it and exchanged it for the xpro because of that.

Have you tried cranking the brightness of the EVF up? I think you can change the EVF/LCD independently, just look through the EVF, hit the Q button and then I think the brightness is in the lower right corner. Might help in bright daylight.

I just nudged the brightness up, thanks. We'll see if that helps.

There are so many good things about the camera that it's unlikely I'll go back to an X-Pro1 just for the viewfinder, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the OVF.

I just tried some low light shots in the office zoomed to 55mm with the 18-55 and the EVF was so laggy that I just used the rear LCD instead. I suspect I'll adapt to things and focus on enjoying everything else about the camera, including what look to be some really nice files!

Just for fun, here's one of the first images I took with the X-E1.

I think the evf on the Sony Nex maybe one of the better ones.. But a bit of jerkiness is probably the nature of the beast. It is related to the refresh (sampling) rate Fuji decide to use.. The higher the sampling rate, the less noticeable jerkiness but comes at cost of needing better performance in the digital path..

Overall, I find the evf on the xe1 not bad.. Quite usable to me. If u come a dslr background, it does take a bit to get used to.

I sold my Olympus OMd because I couldn't get used to the EVF, yet I find the X-Pro EVF excellent, especially with spot metering.

Now I use OVF & EVF. Brilliant

Yep, plus one! There are a few times in bright sunlight where I still swap to OVF though...
Yep, totally agree. I bought the X-Pro 1 with sole intent to use the OVF yet find myself using the EVF 85% of the time easily.

Took some getting used too I admit, I came from a brief affair with an NEX-7 which ended in part because of the EVF but I actually now prefer the EVF of the Fuji over the better specced Sony. Strange.
