GF! adapter question

Hi

I’m new to micro 4/3rds – just ordered my Panny GF1 and excitedly awaiting it. One thing I really want to do is use my Leica M (and CV, Leica screw with adapter to M etc) lenses on it and also my Canon EOS ones (including especially some of my Contax and Leica R and Zuiko lenses which I have adapters to EOS for). I have seen some reasonably priced and reasonably looking adapters from Nikon-discount.com (based in Italy) and wondered if anyone had experience of these, and if they work OK?

The jinfinance (eBay) ones are sooooo much cheaper though. Mine doesn't have a registration distance problem.

That said, I am not all that impressed with M lenses on m4/3, at least not under 50mm. The ones I'm really digging are the Pen F lenses, which focus much closer and are made for a "sensor" of m4/3 size.

Bought one cheap from kp_store on ebay. Solidly made, supports the 35/1.2 no sweat.

It does focus beyond infinity, though. Not a great problem, and with a 35/1.2 I'm not going to be scale-focusing, but I will get round to shimming it a fraction of a millimetre so I can pre-focus before I bring the camera up to my eye. Not bothered about getting it bang on.

And I saved 120GBP over the Voigtlander version.

I am tempted to go for the cheap option, (e-bay), for a M-adapter to my new E-P1, but could a cheap adapter like this do damage to camera/lens?

That Voigtlander adapter at Cameraquest sure looks like good quality but quite expensive...

No, jinfinance is trustworthy. The worst you may find with him is a bit of play/wobble with a lens mounted...tolerances seem to be a bit broad with his stuff. But I use my m4/3 cameras with the rather large and heavy Nokton 50/1.1 and his adapter, and it works flawlessly.

The only adapter I have had an issue with is the DKL adapter which uses substandard guage sheet metal for the lens latch lever ... this lets the lens pop loose and free to rotate and fall out of the adapter.

I remade mine, using stainless steel sheet of the same thickness as the latch in the Kodak Retina Reflex .... no problems since. Only took about 20 minutes with a Dremel grinder.

As far as I can tell from the pictures posted by the various sources, this defect is common to all of the DKL adapters currently available.

I currently have a Leica-M, Leica-R, C-mount and the DKL adapters.
