I don't get it guys,

How can you manually focus with the EVF with a manual lens?

When I manual focus with my panny f1.7 I get that small rectangle on the LCD. Are you saying if you put on a Super Combat 25mm f1.9 with the EVF you will see that small rectangle focus assist in the EVF?

How can you manually focus with a manual lens on the EVF?
Maybe I have to go in the store and try it out myself.

On the Panasonic's you have to first enable the menu item called "shoot w/out lens". Then you have to push several buttons (on the G1 and first s/w version of GF-1); I believe it's the left and center buttons on the 4-way controller, this engages focus assist. A half-press of the shutter button disengages M/F assist. Make sure the camera is set to "A" aperture priority; you adjust the lens's aperture and the camera selects the shutter speed accordingly.

In the later S/W version of the GF-1 there's supposed to be a one-button press to engage M/F assist.

PS: In a recent thread over on the GetDPI forums mention was made of turning OFF the "shoot w/out lens" menu item when going back to using a Lumix lens in order to prevent issues with exposure and white balance; I've been keeping my G1 set to shoot w/out lens all the time, and haven't realized there's a problem; perhaps I'll do some testing soon to verify.
