Gianni Berengo Gardin 1930-2025 R.I.P

Thanks Robert. A really good film that manages within a few minutes to give glimpses of what a great photographer Berengo Gardin was, and it does it with style. For me it was very informative in a visual way - which is just as well since I can't understand a word of Italian. (At the time I didn't notice your comment about captions in English!)

As you say Richard, well worth looking up more about him. I did a quick look that may be useful to others. The Peter Fetterman online gallery gives some 22 of his best images including the one that HCB is said to have ranked among the 80 most important photographs ever taken (Vaporetto, Venice, 1960).

Gardin himself reported his main influences to have been a group of very illustrious figures of that time: Cartier-Bresson, Ronis, Boubat and Doisneau, and others think Eugene Smith also had a part to play. Great company!
