Hola
When I use the Summicron 50 DR on my M3, in regular mode (i.e.near focus to infinity) the rangefinder patch in the VF matches up perfectly, and the images are sharp.
I've used the googles close focus attachment only once, and that was a long time ago. So today I put it on just to test, and noticed that while the camera still focuses, in the near focus mode the RF patch does not match up vertically.
One image is above the other. Focus still seems to be correct, but is this functionally correct? When I take the googles off, and the lens is put into the regular mode, the RF alignment is perfect again.

Thanks!

I will be checking these two items tonight:

"I had one on which the goggle was misaligned. The housing for the round optic which covers the rangefinder window unscrews and by turning the round optic you can realign this. If the RF of your camera is otherwise aligned correctly, I doubt the camera is the problem."

"It could be that you have the wrong goggles for that lens. If your lens has distances marked only in feet or only in meters, you cannot use the goggles with the script logo. If it's marked in feet and meters, you use the script one."

The goggles have to match the lens version.

So... the lens I have is the V2, while the goggles are the V1...

🙁

Anyone want to trade V1 goggles for V2 goggles?

Huss, if I remember right, v1 eyes fit on both v1 and v2 lenses, but v2 eyes only on v2 lenses. So you should be fine, anyways. Stephen writes as well: ...this results in the earlier close up attachment with the Leitz condenser logo fitting on later lenses, but not vice versa.

Thanks ferider. Yes the goggles fit, the RF image is off though in the vertical alignment. I'm going to take a few test shots because I think that I should still be able to focus. Just not as easily.

Looping back, even though the RF patch does not match vertically with the goggles, using the horizontal match worked perfectly fine. Focus was spot on. So while it is annoying that I have the mismatched goggles, they are still usable.

Great discussion! I bought a DR lens before knowing any of this. So I checked. I have the V2 lens with the V1 goggles. My vertical alignment seems right on the money. Thanks for all the great info!
