Right now, personally, I think the best digital options for a film shooter are their cell phones (5 Mpixel cameras are getting standard and 12 Mpixel sensors are already moving into the starting gates) or a micro 4/3 camera as these can take via a suitable adapter nearly any zone focusing or rangefinder glass one can might have--- including cine (C-mount, ARRI-PL, ARRI-Std etc.). The adapter market is growing and already contains relatively inexpensive solution allowing one to use M42, T2, L39, M, R, Robot screw, ARRI,. ..... and.... Canon, Nokon, ..and....I can see your point, but I only have so much money... Can't exactly afford full-frame digital + lenses. Plus, no one pays me for my photographs. Everything I do is for my own enjoyment.![]()
For pictures to be viewed on monitors (as people seem to indicate is the raison d'etre) the sensors in many contemporary smart phones are quite sufficient. Few here have monitors with resolution more than 2 Mpixel--- and the absolute highest resolution monitors I might expect here someone to have is maybe 2560x1440. Current smartphones all have GPS sensors so geodata is there.. Manual focusing? The touch focusing can be used as a kind of manual focus and there are often a few different light modes... but a true manual (focus, light etc.) is not the norm but I can see no reason why one can't make a manual camera app other than perhaps a percieved lack of a good business case for developers....

Full circle Film-Digital-Film. I design circuits and circuit boards at work my eyes feel like they are bleeding when I get off work. I prefer my photos on paper but I can see how digital is best even essential for certain work. Horses for courses.
