Gold Plated M6!

Of course, the collector paying 10 grand for it will not let it collect dust😉
Who would use this for taking pictures? Pretty strong statment for a camera. Its like, look folks I have a gold camera, look at me take pictures.
Just kidding🙂

I've held it in my very hands (well, one of the series), and it looks much better in person, let me tell you. The pictures don't do it justice.

But I'm a black chrome guy myself. 😉

Isn't that one of the M6's that were specially made for King Bhumibol of Thailand. He seems to be an enthousistic photographer (shooting mostly Canons btw) and giving these gold leicas away to his guests.

I think I've actually seen and held this Leica, unless there is another one floating around Aotearoa. Gabrielma is right in saying the pictures don't do it justice. However I had force myself afterwards to wash my eyes out with acetone.

Considering the price of Leica's, you'd think gold plating would be standard.

No, it's German. Anything German commands extra $$$, like the replacement seat belt for my car 😱

Then I really need to get myself an invitation 😉

But I agree with most other people here. It doesn not look all that nice. White gold or platinum would've been much better!

Btw...what is the lens glass made from? Diamonds?

There was one kit for sale at David Osterling's store in WA (KBCamera.com), but he said they were made for the Sultan of Brunei.

Reminds me of the golden Yashicas distributed among best-selling dealers...

Would it be light-tight?

No that's another Leica M6, his where platinum plated with diamond/s.

Don't know, but it might lead to coup in your camera collection 😉

Stu 🙂

I love the gold on that camera. I'm not so keen on the wood, though.

But is it really worth that much? There are 500 of those in the world. That's nearly as many as properly working R-D1s and those cost much less. 🙂

I think Steven Gandy has a picture of the golden Yashica... and the camera is golden inside, so you just cannot use it.

Oh, well... I have the bad habit of using my cameras (like everybody here), so having one just for the sake of having it hasn't entered my mind yet.

I think that's a bit garish for normal use; maybe limit it for carry at special/black-tie occasions? 🙂 Reminds me the local gun shop likes to have at least one outrageous item in stock to stir conversation and draw folks into the store, where they might at least buy something else... One time he had a gold Desert Eagle 50 caliber pistol: huge, gold, totally garish. I don't know who could buy that and not be laughed off the shooting range!

Anyway, I've been seeing a few gold Minolta CLE kits on eBay, three fairly recently though down to two now. Supposedly only 300 made. One of them for $3838 BIN from our high-priced friends at Photo Arsenal, and one about $2600 from Hong Kong: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mint-Minolta-CL...ewItem?hash=item320031623401#ebayphotohosting

Here's a shot of the Hong Kong one, and there are a bunch more good shots from various angles in the auction page--
