This past April/May I was in China, then Japan. While in China, my meter was stolen from my bag by a very professional pickpocket. The guy should get a job as a magician. A day later, the shutter speed dial on my still under warranty ZI would not engage at all; it just spun freely, so I had only my M4-2 to shoot with. No more metering, and I’m not confident about guessing.

Got to Tokyo the following week and went to Bic Camera, thanks to RFF. At Bic I picked up a Gossen Digisix because a] it was the cheapest meter (with incident reading) they had, and b] I’ve happily used a Gossen Luna Six since the early 70s, although that’s not the meter I lost. I thought it was rather expensive for such a little thing, and the warranty was, of course, Japan only. On the other hand, I didn’t want a full week in Japan without a meter, and this one is so tiny it goes in my pocket and I forget it’s there. I wouldn’t have gone shopping for a Digisix, but having been pushed into buying one, I’m very happy to have it.

More bad camera luck when I got home: the Digisix started to rattle. It clearly had a piece of itself loose on the inside. Much hemming and hawing since I effectively had no warranty, then I thought I might as well email Gossen to see if I was really out of luck.

Gossen’s response was to send me a new meter, free.

what an excellent result. I cant see what's inappropriate. Praise is much less common than criticism but equally important.

Your experience with Gossen mirrors mine. I picked up a Gossen Luna Pro with the battery door missing. Like you I contacted Gossen and asked if a battery door was available. They sent me one in the mail gratis. When that one failed to appear another was sent, also gratis. In my book Gossen deserves high praise for standing behind it's products which is increasingly a rarity today among manufacturers.
