i just won a canon 35mm black bright line external finder.

yes, i know i don't NEED one for use with the p but i WANTED one, just to have.

the 35/3.5 came with a chrome finder but i wanted a black one.

if anyone is interested in the chrome one i might be selling it, along with a 135 finder also.
i'll need to see what the black one looks like first though.

Hey Joe,

Nice "nail".

I too have been tracking a couple of items that "close" on Xmas Eve or Day.

Amazing how some sellers are apparently just on "auto pilot" that they don't realize the calendar.

Congrats on your view finder - I'd better go check on my "open" items and see how I did!

Happy Everything,
George

So, joe... was that your Xmas treat?

Congratulations on the winning item! :) And, of course, have a very merry Christmas too!

feliz navidad francisco! and to the family as well.

i have been 'treating' myself for a bit lately, including my 35/3.5 and the near mint 135/3.5 lenses. (not to mention that very good 28/3.5)
i bought 20 rolls of hp5 and a couple of large bottles of ddx to soup it all in.

christmas is actually a low key time of year for me and this year is no exception.

How much are you looking for for the chrome 35 VF? I could use one for the IVSb and I've got some work coming up next week.

good for you, Joe

I've been bidding on an Agfa Isola that ends at 8am on Christmas Day.. I just noticed someone outbid me (it's just over $17 right now).. and now I suppose I have to get online before 8am tomorrow to throw in a snipe.. I also find it odd that auctions end at that time.. this seller is in the Netherlands, tho.. so that might account for the odd time

Check those Canon finders. The Canon 7 had a pin on top that moved the finder to adjust for subject distance. The P might have it too. The late model finders need a seperate callibrated do-hicky that fit between the finder and the camera's shoe to use with other camera models. The older finders had the distance adjusment built in.

ya lost me george.

You know - like when you "nail" a good deal "on the head".

Like "spiking" a basketball through the hoop....

"Ya' did good, my boy...."

I believe it was the V's and VI's that had the parallax pin; the P didn't as an economy measure. My IV doesn't and with no shoe, the 7 certainly doesn't either  but anything is bound to be more accurate than my homebrew 35mm finder; which is itself a whole lot more accurate than _no_ finder... :) I'll agree that for my purposes one with the distance dial on the back is probably a wee bit better.

That's correct, and neither does the 7s; the pin was a V/VI/L feature only.

Finders with the parallax pin, made for these cameras, will mount on other models -- but with nothing in the accessory shoe to press up on the pin, the finder will be angled permanently for parallax compensation at the closest focusing distance.

I guess you could correct this back to infinity by putting some sort of shim in the camera's accessory shoe, but the shim would have to be exactly 0.5mm thick -- the distance the camera's parallax pin moves between infinity and 1 meter (according to a rough measurement I just made with a micrometer.)

Yes the 35mm was a V/ VI finder, but 43 USD a good price. With my P the brightlines are clear enough yet for me. I'm looking for a 85mm black finder, if possible with distance scale.

cheers Frank

the black finders are harder to find and when i do see them they usually go for more than the actual lens cost me.
gets frustrating but sometimes it just clicks.
maybe i'll find another next christmas.
;)

BTW not all chrome finders are bad, the 28mm came with my chrome lens is nice and good to look through....
