Local CL ad is offering this kit, along with some other stuff including a hood and zoom, for $130. I presume this is a good price? I offered him a hundred for just the camera and lens and hood...

Sounds like a fair price to me.

Sounds like a bargain! Great camera and lens, if they're in good shape.

He says excellent shape, we'll see. This is the second time he's put it up for sale...the first time, i thought, hell, I have plenty of cameras, let somebody else have it. But if nobody's going for it, I am all over it. I love my Pen, this ought to be equally good.
Of course now that I want it I'm sure somebody else grabbed it...

Yes, it all depends on what condition the camera and lens is. And there is a fable around internet about later 50's being better. But i think its nothing to be concerned, this combo is wondeful

$100 is fair, but I sold a nice working chrome OM-1n and pristine 28/3.5 for $50 on ebay. I still kinda regret that, should have just kept them (not that I needed them).

Well, seller got back to me, I can have 'em. I think I will take her up on it if the camera's in nice shape. Maybe I'll get me some wacky aki-asahi covering, woo hoo!

How many is enough?
It is a good deal. The 50 1.4 alone has sold for $50-$90 on ebay.

Hell yes, I'll help enable you, too.
Sounds like a fair price. If you follow JSU's advice, John H does that total O/H
with the conversion for about $120 - hard to beat a price like that for
really superior work.
(Yes, John has done 4 cameras for me over the years, the most recent was Jan. 2010.)

Great! I may well send it to him once I'm a little more flush. The seller's coming by a little later--she lives just up the road it turns out. As for the battery, I've got some Wein cells in my drawer--so for now I'm good.
Does the OM-1 have the usual deteriorating foam seals? I can replace those myself, but clearly not the prism foam...

Yes - usual seals, and Jon Goodman has some good instructions plus a kit of the right thickness.
Found the mirror damper seals rather easier to replace than I anticipated but take your time. I did use a craft tool with a new blade to get off the old foam pads.

If your OM-1 happens to have a serial number above 1110000, you won't experience the dreaded prism foam problem.Does the OM-1 have the usual deteriorating foam seals? I can replace those myself, but clearly not the prism foam...

Well, got the camera. It's just about perfect--seems accurate at all speeds, even the seals are OK for now. It's an MD with shoe, serial number 124xxx. Honestly, it is practically pristine...pics later. The only thing lacking, to my delight, is the covering...so now I'll "have" to replace it! What a beautiful camera...one of the nicest chrome cameras I have ever seen. I'm usually a black camera guy, but this thing is beautiful.

Well...I think my meter is knackered. It does seem to respond to light, but 1) the needle doesn't move when I turn the aperture ring, unless I stop it down, and 2) the needle doesn't move when I turn the shutter speed ring. However, it DOES move when I sweep it around the room, over various dark and light patches. Am I missing something, some setting I'm forgetting, or should I ship it off to John hermanson? And if so, how do I contact him?

Daft question - have you got a lens attached to the camera?
I've just tried my OM-1 without a lens and got myself worried.
Changed the battery twice, and then decided to put on a lens.
Made all the difference.
However - I didn't get the needle to move at all without the lens.

No, I do indeed have a lens attached. Perhaps there are some dirty contacts somewhere--I'll check it out when I get home from the office.
