Good ways to mask your camera

I like to use electrical tape to cover black chrome, blends better then gaffers, also the adhesive is less harsh on the body. And Foil Tape for chrome bodies. Nicer then a chucks of random black tape all over your pretty silver top plate :)

I cover because I just plain dont like logos.

While covering up part of my gear would actually make it look better I never had someone wanting to take away the Fuji G690 from my hands. I think they tought that anyone able to put that thing to their eye must be packing a punch.

haha perfect. I can only imagine the faces you would get.

I used electrical tape to cover the canon logo on my 5d only because I don't like the logo, had nothing to do with being preventative. In sketchy areas, I like the XA because its so small and modest looking, or the TLR because people who see it just find it perplexing, and don't look at it with $ signs in their eyes.

A couple weeks ago I had a sketchy guy in a sketchy area ask me for some money so he could take the bus, I reluctantly pulled my wallet out and gave him a couple bucks, you could see the look in his eyes, but he didn't try anything. All the while my TLR was sitting on the ground next to me, he didn't pay much attention to it.

Black masking tape works great. Available in art supply stores.

The crinkly finish adds some texture and gripability.

And while the black tape looks grungy relative to the camera's actual finish, it looks way better than regular tan masking tape.

I agree on black masking tape. It's especially effective on black chrome, or other matte surfaces. I now have a chrome OM camera that I taped with thin silver tape used to seal HVAC equipment.

Another reason to mask the model number is to stop people telling you "I've got one of those!" while you're busy.
I also like the plainer look, less distracting. Don't use grey L lenses either.

There's the greedy logic: steal everything you can, figure the value later.
They can sell stolen stuffs cheap and still get (small) profit.

About film camera being unattractive, in this age when digital camera are more accesible, wouldn't film camera stand out either way ? And peoples using it must be the kind of antique collectors, which means it's expensive vintage collectible.

Gaffer tape, is it not product of public figure showing examples of how the hip peoples do it ?

in Rome, i had somebody steal a lomo colour splash. so it doesnt matter what you cover it up with.

I used a sharpie to blacken the leica m4p lettering though cause I like a stealth look more (and an A & A case to cover the random leitz red dot.) I know it wont dissuade anybody to steal my camera but I like it for cosmetic reasons.
