Bob, At The Vet, October 19th, 2010 by Maggie Osterberg, on Flickr

Bob "Robert 'Birdmeat' Johnson" Osterberg 1996-2010

He was my best friend, my biggest fan and one of the finest people I've ever known.

He went peacefully this morning at the vet's office and with his head cradled in my hands, after a two-year battle with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF), and complications surrounded the end stages, including blindness and GI problems.

Bob and I had been friends and companions since August of 1999, when he moved from his birthplace in Boulder, Colorado, to San Francisco, California. In 2002, we moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and, along with then-new arrival Scooter, took care of each other through some hard times and enjoyed and celebrated the good times.

I will miss him very, very much, especially since he was the only one in the house who liked my guitar playing.

Goodbye, Bob. I love you.

Maggie, gorgeous portrait of your friend. Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sure you gave him a great life. I'm also sure that someday some other family member will appreciate your guitar playing as much.

Thank you, Rob.

I'm working on Scooter...she likes (tolerates) my acoustic playing, so there's hope for her. 😉

Sorry for your loss. It is a tough spot to be in right now, have been there myself, but I am sure Bob knew that he was well loved and that is all any living creature could ask for in life.

Bob

Hard to part with a member of the family.
Harder still to make the decision to part.
But its all about quality of life and in the end it was the best decision for Bob, if not for you. Shed the tears and remember all the good times and not the difficulties of the last few months. You did your best - I am sure you couldn't have done more in the circumstances.
Remember - tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, ........

Best wishes
jesse

Maggie, very sorry for your loss. I know how attached one gets to their cats, been there several times before. I hope you have an album of the good times set up, it helped me. I can still get teared-up looking at some of those pictures taken decades ago.

Oh yeah, I've got tons of photos of Bob from the good times, and there were lots. For instance, there's this one:

Bob in Tiny Amp Town, July, 2008 by Maggie Osterberg, on Flickr

2008 was a great year. I got my Subaru WRX that Spring and Bob, Scooter and I had the whole house to ourselves from the middle of March until the middle of June. None of us were sick or hurt and we made music and watched good TV and movies and played outside and it rocked.
