I recently inherited a Gossen Pilot 2 light meter from my father's estate. It seems to work great in strong daylight conditions such as f8 @ 1/250, but in lower light levels such as f8 @ 1/15 it reads two stops lower than it should (f8 @ 1/60). Does anyone have an idea what is going on here? Thanks for your thoughts.

1DougS,
I have a Gossen Pilot that I bought on e-bay as non working. I took it apart and cleaned the lens plate and the surface of the selenium cell. I could not believe the gunk that I cleaned off. It works, now, pretty much as you describ. I agree with the poster that said that the cell must be on its last legs. They were not intended to last this long. The Gossen Pilot has the clam shell case the helps to prolong the cells life, but the little buggers cannot generate electricity forever. I only use mine on bright to medium sunny days to measure the difference between bright sun and shady scenes. Too bad because they are so light and handy, not like a Luna Pro or Digi F hanging around your neck!!! :bang:

Quality Light Metric still services these meters...I had my Gossen Pilot done last year...I do agree that in low light situations they are slow...look up their EV Range..I know it doesn't go that low (compared to meters with batteries)
