Just got my Mir today. Played around with it and everything seems to work, even the self timer! I just loaded some film into it so I will see how it actually works soon. It came with the Industar 50 but I put on a Industar 22 instead because I like how small the camera is with a collapsible lens.

I have a few questions though, if anybody has this or a Zorki 4 then they can probably help me. What is the point of the ring around the shutter speeds? it goes from 0-25 and rotates, yet it doesnt seem to actually do anything to the shutter speeds (Im thinking its a reminder of film speeds in DIN). Also the finder, I have a general idea about where the frame lines should be but this still leaves a lot to the imagination, are view finders expensive? Also are there viewfinders with more then 1 set of frame lines (I would be interesting in 35mm and 50mm lines mostly). Also just for future reference, how does one go about adjusting the rangefinder?

Thanks,

Yeah its a little annoying, and accessory viewfinders are so expensive! Its almost as if I can either get a brighlines leica finder or a Bessa R, heh.

Ill look around for some old point and shoot cameras that should be laying around the house.

are there really no cheap accessory viewfinders? All I really need is 50mm and something were I can see the frame lines when I am using my glasses.

If you have several FSU cams, the CV 50mm brightline 1:1 external VF is a treat. It transforms the composing process and makes the cams a joy to use.

I noticed with my Zorki's that before I got the external VF I cut off quite a bit of stuff accidentally. I'm wondering if what you see in the full window is closer to 35mm?

I will hunt for a 50mm brightlines finder until the end of my days. I know that someday someone has to spell it like this and put it on ebay: leika britlinez finder 50m. Hah.
