Got My Zorki 1

Hi All;
I just received my Zorki 1 from the seller in Russia. The camera appears to be in better condition than the Bay photos indicated. The rangefinder patch is clear, the curtains appear pristine, the I22 lens is clear with no scratches, marks or fungus, anad the body appears to be in excellent conditon. What really surprised me was when I opened the package how small it really is, it makes my Fed 2 seem massive. I can't wait for the weather to get up to somwhere near the freezing mark so I can get out there and put a test roll through this little gem.

It's real cold right now, the other day I was shooting with a Petri Flex V SLR, and it froze solid on me, I ruined what could have been some great shots.
 
Hey Kev,

I am having some troubles with my Zorki 1 at below-freezing temperatures. To be more precise, the slower speeds act like the "B" or "Z" setting... Faster speeds seem to work okay, though. Sounds like a CL job is in order for your Petri, too. I plan on doing one on my Z1 in a couple weeks' time.

Indoors photography for the time being, then. Too bad the winter has kicked in real good here, I've missed some nice photo opportunities lately... :bang:

I also received a Zorki 1,only 2 months ago,I was also very surprised about the compactness of the camera,especially with a collapsible lens,in this case a Fed.I am also pleased to say that the seperate VF and RF windows pose me no problems.Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

No freezing weather here thankfully,but very wet over the last 3 months!
 
I have an Arguc C3, the separate windows on that are much smaller and harder to focus through, the Zorki is a dream by comparison.
 
Do you guys use eyeglasses? I have some troubles getting my eye near enough the VF/RF windows to get a good look through them using spectacles :cool:... I'm thinking about switching to contact lenses. FSU cameras are beginning to dominate my life... :p

To be honest, contact lenses are a lot more practical, even more so if you use lenses that you can wear for weeks without changing.

Are you going to convert theis into a "Gordy" rat-cam? I have a Zorki 1 on the way for that very purpose :)
 
Not at this point, it's too pretty, and I don't have the talent to try a conversion like that, I have already created my fair share of shelf queens as it is.

Ditto here. One of my Leica.IIIs and one Zorki.1 haven't been CLA'd in sommmme time, works fine in warmer weather, but dip several degrees below freezing and they get really sluggish; the 40 year old lubricant begans to get stiff I'm sure. My other Leica and black Zorki.1d have been recently CLAd and seem to work okay at lower temps... unfortunately, my fingers don't. ;)

However, KameraKev, with a new camera/gotta shoot, just load that bad boy and head for a mall/restaurant/cafe/indoor sporting event/anywhere-out-of-the-cold, shoot near windows and put it through some slower speed paces. I'm waaay too childish to wait on weather. :mad: Zorki.1s are addictive. You're going to have a ball.
 
I'll be shooting asap, unfortunately that work thing is interfering right now, I;m sure it'll be a blast, it winds so smoothly, even better than my fed 2, I'm itching to get at it.
 
Have to say that my Zorki 1 would be the last camera I'd part with if I had to get rid of any. I, too, was amazed at how small they are. My first roll with any "new" camera is usually transparency, so that all problems are seen. On the Zorki 1 I got something like 30 of 36 frames absolutley perfect. The remainder were all errors on my part (like trying to do a 10 sec time exposure whilst forgetting to set "B"!)

I think I will soon be feeling the same way about my Zorki 1, a 1D by the way from what research I have done on the web, and what I have been told on here. I must say though, I will always have a soft spot for my Fed 2, it was my first FSU camera.
