Since today I am the proud owner of a DR Summicron 50mm f2. Nr. 1534580 to be exact.

Had to drive 6 hours to get it, but it was well worth it. It's a bit dirty but hardly any wear and optically perfect, I came with glasses, caps and a yellow filter.

Joy.

Congrats. One of my all time favorite lenses. Sharp as a tack but what I really like is it's more moderate contrast, particularly for my B&W work. It gives me a bit more "classic" look without being too much of an "old lens" look, if that makes sense.

I love modern glass but can often find it too contrasty for my taste in B&W images. With the DR I can always add back the contrast to suite my tastes but often love it's more moderate contrast as it captures such a smooth tonality and gives good shadow detail too.

For color slide work I'll grab my Contax G2 and it's superlative 45 Planar lens. For more documentary and street work, or even classic B&W portraits, it's the 50/2 Summicron DR every time. Some examples of my work with this lens:
