It seems it's my lucky day!

Gotta blame Ralph for this (or rather, thank him...).

Like he does, I'm also in the habit of placing what he calls "playful bids" on items I'd like to buy. More often than not, I get outbid, but then, since I'm just fantasizing about buying the item at my price, it's no big deal.

In the spirit of the game, I placed one of my "playful bids" on a Nikon AF 80-200 lens yesterday. In decent shape, with 77mm filter, free shipping... I was absolutely sure that by today at 9 AM, when the auction would be over, I would have been outbid, and would also find the "You Have Been Outbid" message in my e-mail.

Well... I found the "Congratulations! You Won the Item" subject line! 🙂

The price I paid was comparatively low ($356), but the lucky break is just priceless...

Now... gotta sell the Nikon lenses I haven't used in a long time! 😱 Anyone in the market for AF glass? 😉

Sorry about my silly post... but I wanted to share my news with you. Thanks for your patience! 😀

See, sometimes it pays to play.

I can't tell you how many Summicrons I would own if my bids all were winners.

The game gets tense as time goes on. It is real fun if you don't get outbid until sniping time. By then you are scrambling with your bank statements trying to figure out how you will pay for the item. Half in horror, and half smiling.

Good luck with the new lens Francisco.

BTW, Ralph... a big thank you! The last time I did this (succesfully) I won a Leica Elmarit 135/f2.8... About a year ago!

It's good this doesn't happen often! 😱

Now... gotta go teach. But my students will probably wonder why I am smiling this broadly on a Monday!

Little do they know... 😉

Francisco,

What do you have to sell? I'm not sure if you are interested in a trade, but I have a rarely used Sigma 300/4 autofocus lens in Nikon mount that I'm thinking I should get rid of. I'll open a new thread, but if you are looking for long glass, I'm interested in a sale or trade.

Congrats on your new lens.

jja... it's tempting... but I was thinking of adding a 1.4 TC to the mix instead of using a long lens.

FWIW... these items will go soon to the block (not the evil Bay): a 50mm f1.8 Nikon AF (non D) lens, with caps and circular polarizer, and a Tokina AF193 19-35/f3.5-4.5. I like the Tokina, but given that I got this big gun of a lens to finance, I'll have to sell it.

Next mission: a Nikon AF 20-35 f2.8! 🙂

Forget it... I'm not lucking out again this year...

I'm tempted to buy that 50mm from you but... I figure I don't shoot nearly enough with the 50mm focal length to justify another 50mm lens (currently own a 50/2 AI and the 50/1.2 AIS)... although AF is nice.. AF is good... I am lazy...

jvx, I'm lazy too... although my choice of AF this time was based on the (wrong) assumption that my eyesight was failing.

In any case, if your Nikon is an AF body, the lens will do you a lot of good! 🙂

Sorry for the late reply - I have a Nikon F4s from 1988 - even though the instructions indicate otherwise, it's still in denial about being an AF body 😉

Mint Leica M6, $9.99

Mint Leica M6, $9.99

Now I know why I see so many Leicas and other expensive cameras with absurdly low bids. Frequently I see Leica gear with low or no reserve as the seller certainly knows that the price will go to market level but I never understood why some of them had bids in the extreme low ball range. I always wondered who would imagine they could actually buy an M6 for $9.99. Maybe I'll start putting in that ridiculous low ball bid every now and then. But if I get an M6 for $9.99 I'm definitely buying a lottery ticket, too.

You also pay less fees if you don't set a reserve price - great if you are SURE that it will sell well, but risky!
