You gotta love a new camera where the don't mention the 100 silly filters and useless modes (baby smiling holding a puppy) and video functionality that I'll never use.
Then just don't use them.
Look, it doesn't even have those silly modes on the dial.

Looks pretty good. Only a bit longer than the GRD's. Quite impressive.

the "no viewfinder?" brigade has arrived.
well, so much for that! =(
Why put derogatory labels on people that think differently than you do?
I own a GRD IV and love it for what it is.
Of course I would pay more for a pop up EVF (or better, OVF) instead of that useless flash. So I guess I'm one of your "no viewfinder" brigade member.

Ok, I'll take it.
Me too.
Ricoh does not disappoint us after all.
Any idea about the price?

Said to be around $800.
A little too optimistic maybe. Anywhere lower than the Coolpix A would be acceptable to me..

Predictably I'm in ( I've bought every GRD since the GR1 ).
Any passing thoughts of a X2 have now gone.

My only remaining question is when I can I walk into Adorama and get one.
$800 in May? ... somehow it seems too sane to be true.

I agree with jsrockit......it can't be this easy.....no 4 month waiting list? No outrageous price? Available this spring? I remain cautiously optimistic

Any definitive link to this? That is, where has pricing been stated by the manufacturer(s)?
Curious,

New GR video on utube.
New GR video on utube.
I found this on mirrorless rumor sight. The new gr marketing video..
. Pretty small. Lens retracts. Looks pretty much like traditional Ricoh.

Aizan,
I used to think I'd hated the GRD as well.
But for what I used it for (candids and experiments), I can live without the viewfinder.
That doesn't stop me from wishing, though.

Y'know, this thread introduced me to the Coolpix A.
Didn't know it existed at all.
That is not a bad camera from Nikon.
This is excellent, more competition in the arena of very sophisticated P&S, more choices for us.

What we currently have are all from the rumor sites, none would be definitive before the announcement.

I find on my GR1 which has a viewfinder, I don't actually use it a lot or depend on it. It's very much a quick grab street camera which combined with the snap focus feature is what it excels at.
One of the things with shooting a fixed lens camera consistently is that you internalize the field of view to a certain extent and you come to know 28mm pretty well.
Especially with the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the type of viewfinder that was on the GR1, I don't think you loose much really. It's not the type of camera that lends itself to tight framing or knowing exactly what is at the edge of your frame for composition the way a Leica does. I actually bought my first GR1 to loosen up my shooting style a bit as I found my framing with my Leica was getting a little too static and traditionally "well composed".
There was no mention in the spec or video of the Snap feature but I'd hope it's still there as this would be the only deal breaker for me. However since it started on the film version and has made it through all the subsequent iterations, I'd think it'd become part of the camera's DNA. Ricoh seems a bit too savy to it's market to take it out.
Can't wait for the official announcement.

I'd be willing to bet both my kidneys and my foreskin that there will be a SNAP feature.
