GR Digital V to have APS-C sensor

Can't wait to get my hands on this. Pretty much my dream compact. The original GRD is my favorite digital camera ever along with the X100. I ended up buying an RX100 last year and while it produces fantastic results I just don't "mesh" with it the same way. The UI and ergonomics of the GR series is fantastic; the cameras just feel right, which makes for quicker shooting and less fumbling around.

Having used the RX100 for a while, I don't mind not having a normal charger - at least if the battery life is decent. I bought a cheap third-party charger but never felt the need to use it.

You cannot. I don't want to say that this is true for all recent cameras that do in-camera battery charging, but I can't think of one that I've used that lets you shoot while the camera is plugged into the wall.

Lazy "review" at best. You can always tell when this guy has really used a camera or not by the level of laziness involved. This is by far the laziest I've seen from him.

~eight times more expensive M9 sans lens? Or you mean aged Epson RD-1? Not aware of other DRF's....

It's obvious he wrote a stub article to keep keywords on his site, certainly this is not review.

I'm not bashing him completely. As stupid this may sound and look because of his writing style but he has told some wisdom. Like camera isn't everything. And such. I realize that during recent years he is making profit from his output, but still. He knows a great deal about cameras and his comment about controls bothered me. How DSLR users still can live without dedicated sped and aperture controls?

The M, it's a pretty compact camera.

Ahhh, your approach putting smartphones and DRF's together did mislead me. Sure, if you are digital Leica player, you don't miss small compact cameras with larger sensor and fixed lens. I'm cheap and not into Leicas, so GRD and similar look natural choice for me.

I prefer Sony RX100 ergonomics and Menus to Ricoh with their weird oblong shutter button and wheel dials. Also, I prefer the extra weight and balance and feel of the RX100. I abandoned 2 Ricohs and am very happy about it. Still a bit keen on the Coolpix A ...

Funny, my experience is the opposite. The RX-100 feels rather slippery to me, whereas I love the way the GRD and GXR feel, handle and operate. My GR is already on preorder.

Yeah, I've gotta agree... the RX100 felt almost too small and cramped... plus I don't like zooms or the way the lens expands out way too far from the camera. However, I guess this is a ricoh love thread, so you wouldn't expect much different. 😉

Thanks for the additional comments Jim. I've heard time and time again that Ricoh users love the ergonomics of their GRs.

I wasn't trying to tear down the GR, or the Coolpix A...I was simply trying to justify (in my own mind) keeping the RX100 and not running to the store. I held a Coolpix A just yesterday, and thought it was an awesome camera in the flesh (I don't think photos do it justice). I'm just happy to see that the RX100 still punches way above its weight. I'll keep it for now. Who knows...a mythical "RX10" with an APS-C would have my cash, sight-unseen. I guess I've gotten used to the crappy Sony ergonomics 😀

It's like comparing two huge oak trees in a meadow, both magnificent and shady, and we choose which one we want to rest under based on which one has more leaves.

There is no end to chasing the dream of owning the dream camera.
Use your RX100 and be happy. 😀

2. Use foveon sensor a'la Sigma DP1M
3. Put an pop-up OVF in place of that dinky flash that (I) never use

That's my dream camera in this form factor.

I agree with your thoughts regarding the RX100 -- I really like mine - and use it quite a bit - mostly to take images of things I want to photograph with film at a later date...

I just pre-ordered the GR V - because I love the lens (I love my GR1v) - and because I don't like shooting 35mm color and dealing with developing and scanning - I'd rather spend the time with medium format color -- so, I'm hoping the GR V will give me something for color travel / every day photos -- without having to lug around a DSLR.

What's the shutter sound like for this camera? I think I watched all available videos I could find online on the GR but in none of them there is an actual shutter actuation.
I wish it was as quiet as my X100.
