We're regular visitors to Ashland, and did the drive from Sacramento to Eugene for five years while our daughter was at UofO. The Ashland/Medford area is lovely, has a moderte climate w/ four seasons, and a good amount of culture and recreation. What are you looking for?

BTW, I generally agree w/ the beer recommendations, but IMVHO the best of the bunch is from Eugene: Ninkasi.

Well, the location IS IN Oregon, after all.....

Well, the location IS IN Oregon, after all.....

So, you pretty much can't go wrong, except for jobs....

Oh, and property taxes, combined with Income taxes... but no sales tax .... yet.

All of Oregon is moderate, scenicery, and has four seasons.

Ashland, of course, has the Shakespeare festival (you knew that), and Medford has reasonably good wealth.

thanks everyone...

Gerry M - just emailed you.

JSU - sounds like good area to be in, are you there now?...wife & i look forward to exploring it.

Phil_F_ NM - mmmmm, beer (as mumbled by homer simpson) - thanks for recommendation (you too Bingley).

Bingley - love the cat avatar...you described the climate and environment we are looking for. want to get a pulse on rentals & schools & day-today stuff.

kuzano - your post is music to our ears. sounds like we could get to hear some of that "speak, the speech....trippingly on the tongue" stuff up close and personal. some of my faves : henry v, the tempest and much ado about nothing...

...just about everything i've read and seen on the internet related to the area sounds
great. we will do a trip out there next spring or summer to see for ourselves. meanwhile i wanted to hear from folks in the area 'bout day-to-day stuff - like housing, neighborhoods, schools, shopping, arts scene, outdoor stuff...and the nearest honest-to-gosh old timey camera store.

any and all responses please use my email - neverforgetbeslan@gmail.com

Medford is the big city in so. Oregon, but it's Ashland that has the small town feel w/ the culture boost from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Good resturants, too. Grants Pass seems a little more rough- edged to me, but I don't know it as well as Medford or Ashland. The Cascades are just to the east of Medford, w/ some pretty lakes for boating (Lake of the Woods). The Klamath basin is just to the south, and is spectacular. It's not hard to get to the coast either; the main route runs from Grants Pass to Brookings on the coast just north of the California border. From Brookings it's an easy drive down to the redwoods. Not a bad place to live, IMO.
