I went looking through my negatives from a while back. The ones for the photos I've attached. These are actually some of my favorites. Some of them have been cut through the photo. Clear through. The frames are cut in half. I have no idea what to do about this as these were done almost a year ago, but it pisses me off considerably that the would charge me so much to do this and then ruin my hard copy like that.

Has this happened to anyone else?

???

Uh, Stephanie . . . Walmart ??

C'mon! You know you should go to Costco!! 😉

Seriously, this sux. I now have the labs leave my negs uncut for that reason AND it's easier for reprints AND lab scanning if necessary.

Can someone here please tell me what is "cut off" on the three pics posted?

One is a sign with a border to the left fading into infinity....

The other is a flag hanging from a ceiling with a store sign at the bottom....

The last is another "mall" shot of a store front with three window frames....

None of these photos are "cut" wrongly!

No, they aren't. The NEGATIVES were cut wrongly. These are the lab scans. I just wanted you guys to know which photos I was talking about.

I guess I just don't understand. How can the lab scans, which are derived from the negatives, be okay but the negatives be cut?

And you've only noticed now?

I dont shoot enough to afford to have my films ruined so i choose a photofinisher carefully.

Heck, I usually bring my film to a "dedicated" developer, too. But I have brought stuff to Walgreens etc. when I needed and they never "cut through" negatives!

I guess I just don't understand what Stepanie means by "cut through" (at least from these posted pics)?

Stephanie, do you mean that after scanning onto disk they cut the negatives "off edge" from the frame ends?

If so, your posted pics don't really match the problem you're describing.

The posted pics are just my favorites from the roll. They were cut off edge after they were scanned. I'm really mad because this roll was one of my favorites. It was my roll of Fuji Superia that I accidently developed in D76 with another roll.

Didn't leave many pixels to work with and I only have an ancient version of PS Lite on this computer but how about these?

first they scan the whole roll, then they cut the negatives, "cut" being a euphemism for hack

But hold on a minute! You can develop Superia in D76??!!! I had no idea. Really? Can one push/pull, etc.? Is it consistent & controllable?

I don't know how consistant it is. All I know is that I developed it with my roll of TMAX 100 for the same times as the TMAX and got good results. I would try it with some that you don't use for other film. Your milage may vary.

Note, though, that I'm thinking about doing that quite a bit. Superia 100 is very cheap film. I could develop it either color OR black and white that way and still pay about $1.25 a roll at Wal-Mart for the film.

Stephanie

I think quite a few people have had this happen at one time or another, I have. If you scan your own, you might be able to salvage the negs by scanning the two parts and the join them in Create Photomerge in PS Elements. It is a bit of work but that is all I can think of to do after the fact to salvage those miscut negs.
