Grrrrr (at Wal-Mart)

This is a case for digital. There are as many negs as you want and they never leav your possession.

Want a print, send a file copy. You can even photoshop it first.

I never send out monochrome film. Color goes to a pro lab that never screws up. Film is returned in a strip. You want it cut, do it yourself.

Cheap film is exactly what I'm thinking. Even if it's only good enough to check focus and framing on the latest found equipment, that's a short roll of TriX I can reserve for more important stuff.

On the cut negs: It's little consolation I know, but it could be worse--as Nikon Bob points out at least you have all of the image. Sometimes, though, these accidents are a chance to see things again. Too many times I've lost parts of frames by miscalculating the end of my bulk-rolled cartridges. Always disappointing, but some of those accidental crops turned out to be worth looking at and thinking about, or even working with.

In one of my former lives, my boss had a saying: "Pay 'em peanuts, you get monkies." He was referring, of course, to expectation of low-wage employees having expert skills. I don't expect much from anyone in the retail sector any more, especially the mass merchandisers. When I get good quality and service, I am pleased and continue doing business there. Otherwise, my expectations are always met.
