We were also able to do basic showing of total internal reflection with a milk like substance and other simple laser things. It does diffuse fast through any substance and I think may become a way to run some specific tests on lenses.

but our laser was so weak, it diffused within a cm or so within the cube, we could get about one reflection at about a 30-45 deg angle, and then it was diffused.

Looks like laser interference to me. I did a lot of that kind of photography in the 70s.

the kids and I were wondering if some kind of automated laser moving device existed that would automatically exercise the kitty, who could use some exercise (see attachment!)

But that reference mentions invisible light, where all I've seen had color. We think that cats can't see red, so maybe the cats are seeing it as bright white or monichrome?

The toy also has 3 or 4 other shapes besides a dot, like a mouse template, but they're so weak, that the kitty prefers just the plain dot selection.

I noticed the bit about "invisible light." I just chalked it up to careless writing, perhaps meaning that the beam is invisible until it strikes something.

My theory is cats whose eyes reflect green see in monochrome, cats whose eyes reflect red see colour. (or are possessed)

I'm sorry to say that it is true, but someone has patented stimulating the hunting response in cats/dogs using LASER pointers. So I used my watch bezel to reflect sunlight instead.
