So here it is... no integrated VF is probably a disappointment to many, but I personally don't mind. I've always enjoyed peaking down on the 90 deg finder.
Speaking of the finder... if the new one is anything like the Oly's then bonus!

I had the chance to try out the EP3, but was let down by its AF system (in low light & low contrast)... Panny has this area down pat. So if this is a GF1 on steroids, it'll be quite tempting.

What I was praying for was a better EVF, useable 3200 ISO and 16mp.

Seems my prayers were answered!

Well, to GF1 fans, this is probably a nice update. However, these cameras without built in OVFs / EVFs are kind of tired at this point.

...comes down to use I guess. I was hoping it would have that beautiful x100 finder in there, but after much use have really liked the EVF attachment (although that LVF1 can definitely use the improvement).

Panasonic and Olympus are milking their m4/3 developments to the bitter end. This is fundamentally the same camera as the GF1 but with a better sensor and a few little features here and there. It's the camera the GF1 should have been, and it took... what... 4 generations to get to it?

The e-p3 is a similar story... Just the camera the e-p1 should have been.

Personally, the nex-7 is significantly more attractive (yes I know/agree the sony lenses are to big/crappy/whatever but at least it has a built in viewfinder!)

This is technically a 2nd generation camera, seeing that it is using the 2nd generation of M4/3 sensors.

Unless there is a really good reason for this, it is a dumb move on Panasonic's part.

Looks like a nice camera. It's a shame Sony didn't go u4/3 with their NEX line - Panny/Oly/Sony all have their strong points, but my ideal system would have parts from each. Olympus 12mm, Panny 20mm, NEX-7ish body.

That bites. I would've splurged on that new finder if it was even a hair better than the first one for my GF1.

After looking through a G3 finder for the better part of 1.5 weeks, the LVF1 is gathering dust.

What little hope I have is put on an Olympus E-P5 which could be (should be ??) a pro model that will kick NEX 7 out of the ring.

I sort of think M43 is, if not in out-right trouble, in a bit of a mire.

Sony's line is better sorted (entry NEX 3, really good but short a few things NEX5, all the bells and whistles NEX 7). There you go. Three cameras. Something for everyone. Very good value.

Panasonic and Olympus have been rehashing, rehashing, rehashing. And they are behind in the IQ/sensor department.

Sony's lens line-up has started to fill-out a bit. They only need a wide-angle zoom and a standard pancake (say 30mm) and all the basics will be covered.

I've been looking for two new cameras to finish my transition to digital for everyday use - a new compact (decided to go with the Fuji X10) and an interchangeable lens mirrorless. Having an integral (not a clip-on) eyelevel is essential to me, and I had been hoping the GX1 would have it.

This may push me back into looking at NEX for the EVIL, but I'd still prefer m4/3 due to a few of the lenses that are available. I'm going to sit tight and wait for now - it's very unlikely my wallet will open for the GX1. At the very least I'll hold off to see what Fuji has up their sleeves.

I read somewhere that it might be related to the data throughput between camera and finder. If coming up with a better finder required a better connection with the camera, that's an understandable reason for not making it backwards-compatible.

Unless there is a really good reason for this, it is a dumb move on Panasonic's part.

I just realized that the GX1 is just a G3, but without the finder. Same body, same specs. Only it's more expensive.
