Today I was eating breakfast at my favorite local coffee shop and I bumped into a fellow rangefinder fan. The first time we talked, he was curious about my Minolta Hi-Matic 9. Eventually, I found out that he had a QL-17 outfit that he had bought years ago among other things, and I mentioned that I had always wanted to try one.

Anyway, this morning this same person mentioned that he had spotted a QL-17 at our local town museum's thrift shop, and that he had thought of me when he saw it. That was nice enough, but he also said that it was black :D Plus it also came with the Canonlite D, case and a lens shade all for $55!!!

So I finished breakfast a bit faster than usual and pedalled down to the town museum, and sure enough there it was, along with a few other goodies. I plunked down my money, plus $3 for a really nice vintage GE light meter and rushed home intending to take pictures of it to post here.

Of course, with all pleasure must come some balance; and, to that end, I have managed to misplace the cable and memory card for my digital camera  So no pics for now. Sorry.

But I can tell you that it is indeed a beauty that looks like it was hardly used. Plus it works :D The lens shade that it came with is the factory one with the cutout for the viewfinder, and that came with its original case, too. The camera itself came with a case, but either Canon N. Ready cases are really terrible or someone covered it with shoe polish or something else that promtly came off onto my white shirt on the ride home.

To wrap things up, I will get right on tracking down my memory card and on getting new light seals into the QL-17 so that I can post some pics.

:D :D :D

Congratulations on the perfect purchase and at about it's true price instead of what Ebayers seem to want to pay :D Warning ..... your going to get (even more) addicted!!! ;)

Canon made some of the nicest compact fixed lens rangefinders and coupled them with some of the absolutely worst camera cases in the known universe.

Yeh that cam is probably worth quite a bit! :) Good deal! I got one a few months ago (not a black one!) and I really love it - it has a wonderful lens! :D Good luck with yours!

Congats from me too!
Had a nice day myself, too, staying inside in the darkroom, printing lots of pics, mostly from my Rolleicord negs - every time I print those, I'm amazed again what a sharp lens that Xenar is, neg scanning just does not do it justice...

Congratulations Richie that's really fantastic find. I'll be very keen to see how it looks and even better to see how its pictures look.

Just wanted to post a quick photo of my Canon, plus a Retina IIIS that just happened to come in the mail today :D and which I am about to take out on a photo walk. I will post photos from it soon.

Richie

PS please excuse the terrible photo. My regular digital camera is not cooperating, so, out of curiosity, I bought a $20 digital and have now discovered why it was so cheap.

That IIIS is a great camera. If the viewfinder is "hazy" or out of alignment, let me know. I have a .pdf of the service manual. It looks like you have the incident light meter attachment with it, don't lose it!

Hmmm, what a day!!! :)

Homer Simpson:Hmmm, beer.
RFF Member: Hmmm, another RF camera.
