I shot with my Contax IIa, and it has been a long time since I shot with it last.

I had to hold down the rewind button of my IIa to rewind.

Is this normal? It reminded me of one series of the Leica M2 button rewind, where you had to keep the button pressed in, to rewind the film.

I'm thinking, this isn't normal.

Any other users of the IIa out there, to confirm my suspicions, that the button should have clicked and locked, until the film was fully rewound?

Hmmm. Thanks Brian.

I fiddled a bit with the camera, and the shaft does seem to click in to allow the film to rewind, but after a small rotation, the shaft clicks out. I wonder whether the latching is just 'weakened' with age.

Anyway, I'm assuming you are right, Brian - this is a "hold down" rewind.

Wouldn't have thought that in the 50's, that it was rocket science for Zeiss to make a latching rewind mechanism.
