FYI amazon.co.jp sells Hakuba 40mm UV filter w/black frame to fit Canon RF lenses, currently priced at 1308 ¥ (8.32 USD) each.
USA shipping was very reasonable. Made in Japan. Quality is excellent. They thread on/off Canon LTM lenses without difficulty.

It's not very heavy, though it is a small diameter filter.
I haven't compared it with a vintage Canon filter.
I assume these have aluminum frames.
For $8 each it's unlikely they would be brass.

@38Deardorff,

You have options since you don't live in Tariffistan. Jose at customphototools.com recently made me a 40mm-52mm step-up ring at a very reasonable price just before the US tariffs kicked in. He doesn't want to deal with the US tariff situation so has blocked web access from the US but you should (I hope) be able to reach it from Canada. If not, message me and I'll send you his email.

The step-up ring is beautifully made, fits perfectly, and doesn't block my L2's viewfinder or rangefinder windows at all.

BTW, the thread pitch is 0.5mm on the 40mm side.

personally i don't want a step-up ring on a tiny lens... still jonesing for a 40mm orange filter...

40.5mm size filters are fairly common and wouldn't look ridiculous on a 40mm size thread lens.
Does anyone make a 40mm to 40.5mm filter adapter?

Chris

I also have some of the Fotasy 40mm filters which work great. I use the low profile rimless original Canon one for my 25mm lens to avoid vignetting. Yukosteel has shown how this can be done by grinding off the threads on a normal filter too.

I have a set of 40mm filter for my Canon 50/1.5 but need a 40/40.5mm or 40/43mm step up ring to screw in a hood. Amazon has a ring but it’s plastic. Any suggestions for a hood?

Can made a variety of hoods that will fit.
The original is actually marked 50mm f1.5. there is a chrome one and a black one.
Then there is one marked 50mm f1.8 35mm f2.8 that will work as well.
Then there is a hood marked S-42 which is about the same as the f1.8 version.
Finally there is a square hood with a vent marked f1.9 50mm f3.5 35mm.

Most of these will have a 42mm clamp on ring (best) but some will have a 40mm thread, 36mm clamp ring, or 34mm thread.
