half frame film developing?

are films shot with hald frames developped by common/ususal, even 1 hour services, or do they need special processing?

AFAIK no, they just need different cutting that's all, but it's done by hand anyway.

I've had half-frame done by mini-labs OK. Order 5x7 prints and you'll get two postcard-sized prints from each. Whether edge cropping is acceptable will depend on the lab and on your own tolerance.

It really isn't difficult -- one might even call it a no-brainer -- but unfortunately there are always a few minilab operators who do, indeed, have no brains. If anyone is bright enough to understand what you are talking about when you take the film in -- as most should be -- then they should be able to process and even print the pics OK.

Should be all right so long as you don't use slide film. As Roger says, though, watch out for lab people with no brains.

I am in Japan right now and I don't speak japanese...but I did find out that there are many places that develop films, scan them write CDs. I guess that should be OK with film shot on half frame, yes?

Some places won't print them. Some will. Lately, I ask them to just process the film and don't cut the negatives. That seems to work for me.

I spoke with the folks at Ritz, and they were willing to print two to a photo, which worked out great. The guy said that the machine used to have the frame for half frame but they got rid of it a couple of years ago.

I suspect that there isn't much demand for half-frame printing.

Last time when I ordered 10x15cm prints from my half-frame film here in Finland, the pictures came out just fine and without any extra cost (compared with regular 35mm film prints). But it was only the Fuji Frontier minilab machine, which could handle the printing. And even they couldn't scan the film to CD. So, I did scanning myself with my Nikon Coolscan filmscanner.

I thought I heard somewhere that some of the Fuji minilab machines even have a setting for scanning/printing half-frame. Might be something to check. Otherwise, my mileage has been the same, the local places do just fine by printing (or scanning) two to a frame.

I get mine processed at my local grocery store/lab. They have done a fine job generally but once a roll got cut incorrectly. I got free processing for that roll! After that I just made sure that they knew it was a roll of half frame and requested that they cut by hand. I did have one roll go in with a bunch of others that was a half frame roll and it came out fine. A bit of a crap shoot I guess. For printing I have only ever scanned and uploaded as a digital file.

I was just at Ritz Camera today. The store I frequent is staffed by people who seem knowledgeable about processing and care about the quality of the output. They always do a nice job for me.

I had another roll from the Agfa half-frame, which they printed as two-on-one. It works out very nicely.

What about 2/3 frame cameras, like the Zeiss Tennax?

I've had them print 5x5, but I usually just have them process only and return the film uncut when I shoot with a Tenax.

With the Tenax, I mostly shoot b/w and only shoot color print once in a while.
