Thanks for sharing your series of photos, Kostya. Where I live has had most of its small amount of industries close, but tourism and rural production with some mining seem to keep it afloat. It's a really good project to look at how people are coping with changes like this.

Today I went to Hamilton with our younger and born in Canada daughters. It is shorter and more easy drive to Hamilton comparing to the chaos of Toronto. But our small one was asking "arewehereyet".
I made it quick and for visiting of Hamilton Art Gallery. They have road sign in six kilometers, but then it is well kept secret. We parked inside and exit from the building. We made some walk around the block to discover it was in one hundred meters from where we parked, in the same building. Here is no even single sign in the parking. Just - EXIT.
But... it was free admission Friday!
The reason I came was Vivian Maier photography. Very interesting, in addition to BW and square prints, they have her fragments of movies and color prints from Leica negatives.

I was taking my "street" pictures with Zorki today...
But I understand why Winogrand has M instead of LTM. It is easier if you have your hand with your daughter hand.

Film is still in the camera.
So, I have more pictures from this part of Locke Street which was facing resistance from anarchists drinking Starbucks coffee.

Yes, they want 480K CAD at least for condo on this street...

End of the Summer. Back to Hamilton Beach with EOS Elan IIe and Tamron 28-75.
Beach itself nearby our family friends house is often unbearable. Most of the time the smell from steel factories is terrible. And for this week water turned over to freezing one from the bottom of the Lake and August flies are biting.
But it is good place to walk.

I never seen this white lighthouse covered with whatever it is called these days.

I guess, this activity is due to exhibition of Banksy in Toronto.

This is where we were launching our boat, but this year after owning it for ten years we sold it. Within few hours and people offering thousands more. I can't say I miss it. Every time I think about hooking it up, towing, launching...

And this one was taken with 22-55 EF lens on EOS300 at the wide end, with same Kodak 50D as above.

While I signed up on this forum almost a year ago now, I'm actually quite the newcomer here and have only been reading and visiting on a regular basis for a little over a month now. During this period of time, I feel like I've looked at quite a few of your images as you seem to be one of the more consistent contributors around here when it comes to sharing your images. With that in mind, I must say that I find this series of photos to be by far the most interesting I've seen out of everything that you've posted. This series of images is very compelling and I plan to check back in on a regular basis. Part of that might be due to the interest this subject holds for me, even though I've never been to Hamilton, nor am I familiar with it at all. Part of it might be your approach to telling this particular story as compared to the rest of your photography. Whatever the reason I too hope that you'll continue to follow up and keep this visual story going.

It's already happening and tbh, you cld turn around and show another side of Hamilton that shows a burgeoning and prosperous community. Look around Toronto and you'll find the same thing. Hamilton's potential is pretty huge if the city plans things properly.

I think that you raise a very good point. But as I've seen noted numerous times, the photographs we make are just as much a reflection of ourselves and our view of the world as they are about the subject matter in particular.

After seeing this thread I spent a small bit of time searching for information on Hamilton and see quite a different image presented. It is up to each of us as photographers to determine what it is we most want to convey, whether we realize it or not.

Starting from 2017 I was getting more and more emotionally attached to Hamilton as the place where jobs used to be many and now most of it is gone.
As with many Hamiltonians who worked for long time at same place and one day it just closed, same happened to company I worked for fifteen years.

Our industry also changed.

Not so many places to work. Only few openings.

It became computerized first and I was OK with it. But then it started switching to advanced network and getting virtualized.

So, company was closed in June.

Nobody was in the rush to hire me. Two ex-customers companies for whom I did job for years and just recently... refused my application.
And I spend some time going to Hamilton and wondering on the streets. It is not very pleasant feeling, to walk as jobless and have big family at home...

But between our home town and Hamilton it was one company... I got job offer from them years ago. For my very narrow specialization.

They are still hiring. And after couple of months and several interviews they let me in.

I haven't been walking in Hamilton since it is a lot to learn at work.
But every other person I talk with at this new place will say -

I'm from Hamilton...

This series is superb. I sometimes work third shift with nothing to do so I enjoy a lot looking at the wonderful photography here on this forum. This is some of the best Iv'e seen. I found it very compelling and poetic. I also enjoy your Flickr a lot Kofe. Thank you for sharing.

Of all of the hundreds (thousands?) of photo sites I've seen out there on the Interwebs, this site stands alone regarding the quality of the photographs that are regularly posted.
